ring and pinion setting 911 gearbox
I have two 911 (1971) gearboxes . I want to switch the internals from the one case to the other gearbox. Do I need to reset the ring and pinion depth. Or am I save with the original shims?

Peter,
Do you intend to swap the ring & pinion gear (R&P) pair from one to the other transmission? If so, yes you do need to reset all the specifications for the differential tapered bearings, the pinion depth and the ring-to-pinion backlash. If you do this, start with all (6) new bearings. If you are not changing the ring and pinion, you can change all the transmission gears without resetting the R&P. What is your project? I thought you had a 915. Best, Grady
