Having outlived two wives over the last 25 years, being "borrowed" by my teenage son, and after one complete 2.7 rebuild and a recent transplanted (fresh) 3.2, surviving a few financial crisis' that could have taken her and one failed attempt by a half-witted theif... Precious is still with me and most likely will be for many more years of sweet Porsche addiction...
How about you? How dear has your Porsche become? ![]()

pretty precious. ...belonged to my dad. I used to "borrow" it as a teen ager too. ...had a pretty high perf. 2.7 so it was quite a thrill for me back then.
I've Owned it since I couldn't afford it and used to sacrifice a lot to keep her going. I have a lot of sweat and now monies in it. It's not done nor will it ever be. It will probably be passed on to one of my son's before it's all over.

After 17 years, it's like one of the family.

It's precious but I wouldn't take any bullets for it... not the same story with my wife or daughter. I can replace the car.

Now 4 years since aquiring my long awaited and searched for 3.2 and it's here with us for good however I hate to admit this, and I am sure I am not alone on this one, but I spend more on my 911 than my wife!!!!
Luckily she doesn't know this....whew.

if the oil runs dry, and the gas unobtaininum , then i'll just find myself a house with a big living room, and park it there...and play recorded sound bites of the MFI at full whack...

My dad bought my 911 on Christmas Eve 1974 with his first bonus check from the company he started earlier that year. It was his only car for several years (a Targa in Wisconsin!) and he put a lot of miles on it during cross country trips, etc.
He was killed in October of 2004, much too young. During the reading of his will, I found out that he specified me as the recipient of this car. I think he knew that I would cherish it and restore it to its former glory, as he always intended to do but never got the time. It’s a big piece of him – and I can feel him in the passenger seat next to me every time I get in. The car spent the winter in the body shop and was stripped to bare metal for a repaint of the original special silver anniversary paint. The interior was refurbished during this time as well. The engine is strong and I drive it every day I can. Middle-year car or not, I don’t know that there will ever be too much money for me to keep this car running. So, how “dear” is my ride? More than I can put into words…..

I'm gonna drive the hell out of my car. If/when it breaks, I'm going to fix it (with the help of my dad) and drive the hell out of it some more. If/when it can't be fixed any more, I'll buy another one and drive the hell out of that one.
Nothing lasts forever. IMHO it's not about the car, it's about the experience.

hey colorado, there a difference between abusing a car and driving it like it was meant to be driven. My car has 50+ de events (30+ of them 3-day), and 100+ autox's. it's on its 3rd rebuild (210hp, thank you very much), has been constantly updated and is still original paint, no bodywork.
we've been doing this since 1979. Bill K

Jesse,
You hit the nail, dude. There's nothing I would love to do more than to pass my Precious on to my son and know he would have those "dad in the passenger seat" feelings you speak of. Talk about an enduring legacy. I'm an artist and my paintings are a part of the mark I'll leave on the planet but my Porsche is an heirloom with a major cross-generation appeal. You touched my heart and the heart of what my Porsche has meant to me. And to Colorado: Drive the crap out it, fix it and drive it some more! That's what it about too!

Had my '73 911 for 9 years then I ripped its guts out and shipped it around the world. Seem fitting since it was a frankenstein car and not some concourse show piece. Then again I might have made more money if it was a concourse car but I have been called a heartless bastard more than a few times.
