To duck or not to duck.....
Contemplating some future mods to my '72 targa. I'm thinking that a duck tail and an S front spoiler might look pretty nice (keeping all the original parts, of course!). Any opinions, or, better yet, pics of an early targa with a duck?http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1149033555.jpg

I had a 70T coupe that I put an S front bumper and Duck tail on....I loved how it transformed the car....so much so that my 87 now has duck tail...someday it might become a long nose....if it does I won't have to buy a tail at least....

Looks outstanding as it is.

To paraphrase the late Johnny Cochran:
It's best to not molest Or was it: Making it fit will give you fits? Quit trying to make it fit, dimwit? Ah hell, I give up. Leave 'er alone...... |
It looks great as it is, a nice find you made there. But if you decide to change it's appearance, yet keep all the original bits, no harm, no foul. It's all a matter of personal taste.
As food for thought, here's my 72E with duck and S bumper. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1149040598.jpg |
A friend (coldstart) and I were comparing the looks of our cars side by side (him, black 72 targa, very similar to yours except with chrome front bumperettes and chrome trim around the wheel wells, mine red 72 coupe with S chin spoiler and duck tail) and were remarking at how different the overall picture looks. Mine looked more modern and agressive, his much more classy and sharp. I couldn't figure out which look I preferred. It's a surprising difference for 2 cars that were so similar.

I prefer Targas left alone but ducks look good on coupes. Just my humble opinion...
|
S spoiler for sure, but NO duck on a targa. IMHO

To duck or not to duck, that is up to you . . .

Quack...quack,... do it..
|
My vote
Don't do it!
Looks great the way it is. |

In the case of your 911, I would leave it as it sits. It is beautiful. However, I think ducks look particularly good on Targas. The swept back angle of the Targa bar and angle of the ducktail are a nice design element. Of course I am biased... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1149047989.gif Mike |

It just never looked quite right. |
As a Targa owner, I personally don't care ducks on Targas.

No duck, but the S front bumper.
Oh, and pick up a set of 4 15X7's. Run 205/55's on them. It will totally transform the car's attitude, while still keeping the classic looks. |
Duck it, it's not like it is welded on there. If you keep the original lid, you can always go back.
Again, duck it... |
