Westach 6-cylinder CHT gauge kit

I found the Westach products on another post but just found this set of items on Spruce...its a westach item but I hadnt found it on the actual Westach site (Westach also didnt answer my email queries.)

I've posted a question to Spruce, has anyone used one of these? Ability to monitor CHT on all 6 cylinders is ideal! I've asked them how the sensors are mounted. Anyone else use this?

CHT ENG ANALYZER KT 6CYL 18MM 10-17218 $173.05
WESTACH CHT P/N 2A1 10-01235 $48.95
WESTACH 6 POSITION EGT SWITCH 10-01266 $35.60
WESTACH CHT THERM 712-5WK 10-01226 $14.75

looks awesome if it can be adapted...

I was going to install a similar kit a few years back and recall 14mm plugs and the need for a 14mm kit. To install, you remove the washer from the spark plug and place the sensor/wire combo in place of it.

You should search the threads as well. I believe that a sensor on 2 and 5 are just as effective. One other note I read was that two cylinders are always going to be hotter - not sure why though.

Cheers,
Tony

I would love a kit that fit our 14mm plugs. Especially at that price!

Cheers

I had them build me a CHT with a volt meter when I took out the clock. Nice unit, "close" to looking like it's a VDO but for 1/2 the price. They also added a couple of idiot lights I needed for the 3.6 belt sensor.

Wouldn't it be easier, and cheaper, to run a dual Pyro-guage? One sensor in each side's collector. Individual cylinder monitoring is either going to require speed dialing a knob, six guages, or an ecu that over-rides to display highest temp. by default.

Hi John:

I've installed that product on an airplane that I used to own,...

Good stuff,....(sensors installed under the spark plugs).

It was turbocharged so it was quite useful to keep track of CHT's during ascent & descent.

Hi Steve, thanks for that.
Mike, do you have a pic? Did you have Westach do the modifications?
Tony, I read in an archived thread about 2 and 5 being expected to be the hottest as they are "sandwiched" and in that same thread that 5 was sometimes the hottest perhaps due to the least airflow/evacuation room. I think that thread had the Westach reference.

Jon, I hear you, and you're probably right once I know which cylinder tends to run the hottest the gauge will probably spend 90% of its time there. Seems like a great idea though.

My first email to Westach actually asked if they could squeeze 6 dials into one gauge, motorcycle-style.

I broke my vernier calipers yesterday (stepped on it) but believe the 3 1/8 inch is the right size for the clock hole.
