70e alternator woes
Replaced alternator - rebuild shop crapped up the old one so bad they couldn't rebuild it, old Marchal - they got me a replacement, it is too thick so will have to have housing machined my main concern though is the wiring connection points to the alternator which is different from the old one (the old one did not have stamped marks on the back. I searched here for a few days but want to see if anyone else may know. I have connected the two red wires to B+, a small blue wire to D+/61, the black wire with the slip on connector to DF, and the brown wire to D-. ANY help would be appreciated at this point in time, the car is my 1970 e and I don't want to toast her. Thanks, Jerome

Jerome, those connections are correct, but you should absolutely go back to the rebuild shop and DEMAND a correct Marchal alternator, not some later POS like a Paris-Rhone that won't fit. Machining the housing might work, but one screwup and you're buying a new housing and they are NLA and the Vertex one is their own casting and I wouldn't put one one on either of my 911s. Don't forget the ground strap between D- and the engine case, the ground must be as big as the B+ when current flows, remember. Be sure to disconnect the battery before making any connections, you could easily hurt yourself or the car with an 800 amp shock. Good luck!

John, thanks for the quick reply I have been nervous as a pick-pocket in a nudist colony since I hooked it up, still haven't hooked up the battery, so I bought a shorter v belt to run off the a/c pulley to the alternator before I did anything else to the car. Again - thanks. Jerome
