OT but new project just arrived.

Ok I know that this is off topic a little , but just had my " new " project delivered today from a fellow P-can in up state NY that saw my WTB add for a 356 replica project car.

Anyhow this is how I will spend the next few months time off.

I don't know much about 356's so pardon my ignorance. Will you use nerf bars or 356 bumpers? Fuchs or steelies or something like the wheels in the picture of the blue car? Can those things be bought without the flares for a true replica look? Likely powerplant? and the HP/Torgue you'd likely expect to develop?

Todd, you need to throw some deep dish fuchs on it when your done. I see so many here in SoCal that are so nicely built and then they throw those Centerline/American racing wheels on em. Keep us posted, love 356's even replicas

Hello Dan,

The project came with both the chrome Nerf Bars for front and rear as well as the standard paintable front and rear bumpers with the crome push bar / uprights, I am not to sure which I will use at this point, I will have the standard bumpers painted at the same time as I do the car and decide at that point I guess.

As to the wheels , the car came with the Fuch's you see in the pic's with four painted center caps, they are 15 inch wheels , not sure of the width yet, the wheels have been powder coated, I may switch over to something different and sell the Fuch's down the road, since I like the look of the chrome wheels on the other car.

This car is a " Street Beast " car based on a 55 Californian or SC speedster, it uses a tube chassy not a shortened VW pan, like some others, it also has 5 lug hubs and four wheel disk brakes with coilover IDS in the rear, currently it is set up for a 2.7 or 3.0 from a 911, it came with a rebuilt 901 five speed.

I am going to put a 2150 or 2300 type 1 carb'ed with either a standard 4 speed or a 5 speed VW type 1 tran's back in the car, the engine will be making about 150-180 HP, I have not weighed the car but four of us picked it up and moved it around without breaking a sweat, course there is no engine or tranny in the car right now. lol

There are several kit's available but Street Beasts only makes the SC style kit, they are a re-formed company from the old CMC brand.

I always wanted to do one of these so I jumped in at the somewhat deep end, I would say the middle end actually haha

Todd, Congrats on your plans. Curious - if its already set up for a 2.7 or 3.0 911 flat six, why go with a 2150 or 2300 Type I - unless you already own one or are much more familiar with them? I suppose weight is a consideration but the availability of a relatively stock 2.7 or 3.0 making 175HP stock would seem to be easier.

The finished car is for street? COmplete interior or track style minimalist?

Hey Dan,

I don't have either of the six'es available to me at a decent price, but do have the Type 1 very reasonable and since the car was designed for the four I think that is what I will go back to, the abundance of aftermarket VW parts available cheap these days is astounding...haha

I have pretty much everything I need to finish the car except a gauge set up from either a old 911 / 912 or a VW that uses the large VDO gauges ,

The interior that came with the car along with the top and windows is black, might change that out down the road for a tan one, but will use it for right now.

This will be a nice weather street car only.
