lap belt anchor mounting question

how does one mount the outboard eye bolt to the vertical sheet metal in the rear footwell? do I have to remove all the outside trim and rub strips to gain access for the fastener. isn't the hot air passage in that space?
thanks in advance. car is 77 930

I think most people use the threaded hole for the factory belt anchor. Romoving the trim on the outside will not expose anything usefull. And, yes, the inside of the sill area contains the silencer tube for the heated air from the heat exchangers.

thanks JR
I would like to retain the oem 3 point and use the lap belt as supplemental. our zone no longer allows 5 pt systems to be used with non race seats. I have always run the lap belts in my 73 and found them reassuring on the track and useful for autox. But the outboard eyebolt on my 73 goes thru the floor and I'm not too fond of the look.

Bill,

I guess I'm confused. Are you wanting to run both sets of belts at once? Or, just a lap belt at track events/autocrosses?

The location of the eyebolt on the '73 might not be in a good place for belt orientation or structural reasons.

There's a great write-up on the do's and don'ts of harness installation by the guys that sell Schroth harnesses here in the states. They might even have a belt set that would give you the benefits of a harness and the suitability for use in a car without a race seat and cage. I know they make a four-point harness that acts like a three-point belt in a wreck. It's worth looking at the site.
