Pivot sequential shift lamp ??

I'm posting this question for a Porsche friend not on this list. Here's his note to me. Any advice on this set-up?

- Wil

=====================================

I'm thinking of adding a shift light to my car. Someone on Rennlist mentioned a "Pivot sequential shift lamp". Don't know much about them, performance wise. The RPM signal is picked up from the power connection on the cigarette lighter or the standard tach signal. They make several models, the one I'm interested in has a series of LED's that illuminate based on the programed engine RPM as opposed to a single lamp that tells you that you are already into the rev limiter. The display unit is relatively small and could be mounted with double back tape to the steering column housing.
