Chips - which is best?

I have an 89 Carrera that I have owned for about a year. When I bought it, I knew that there was an aftermarket chip installed, but only today pulled out the Motronic box and found out what it was: a Superchip. My car is a 231hp ROW model and I have confirmed that the Superchip chip is designed for the 231hp engine and that it is supposed to increase hp by about 10hp.

Is there truth to the hp increase? Does anyone have experience with Superchips? How does it compare to the Steve Wong chips that I have read good things about on this and other forums?

The only way your going to confirm anything is 1. Get hold of a stock chip 2. Have Steve W. burn you a chip custom to your cars engine 3. Have access to a dyno and 4. Keep you DME box out and open ready to switch. Changing chips is the one of the easiest things to do at a dyno. I have all the confidence that Steve's chip will give you optimal results since most performance chips are made on a generic program that is not custom matched to your cars specifics.

I run a Steve Wong Chip and I have to say its amazing. Once my car has been dyno'd I'll send the results to Steve he has offered to Burn me another based on the results.

My car is now amazing to drive.

thanks all. Certainly sounds like Steve Wong is the way to go. I will spend some time at the dyno with my stock and superchips and then discuss the results wtih Steve. I'll keep you informed.

Hardi, designing a good chip isn't all just about peak hp on the dyno - but is important to consider low and mid end part throttle torque and throttle response, idle quality, smoothness, and responsible programming which dyno runs do not show, but where most of us spend 90% of our time. As for Superchips, might I direct you to read the first review on page 8 of the Reviews page from Jonathan Clayton: http://www.911chips.com/reviews8.html

Thanks Steve. Yes, Jonathan describes some of the symptoms I encounter with my superchip - hunting, jerkiness at low revs. I'll email you to discuss further.
