911sc turbo

I have read the thread about the bae kits and other threads that also apply. My question is one that never really was answered completly. What about adapting the stock sc exhaust with a turbo flange on a test pipe. Is the stock sc thick enough to withstand the rise in temp? Looks lots like the 930 exhaust in design. If it would work, it would be simple! I basicly have all that would be needed for the exhaust at least. Mine is a 79 so I guess it could be mostly a bolt on affair. I'm not that close really as I would like to crack the case and upgrade/update whatever needs attention first. I just thought I could get this question out there. TIA

Yes, the US version of the SC heat exchangers is the same configuration as the stock 930 Euro heat exchangers. You need the turbo/wastegate Y-pipe which is less often sold alone. Stock Euro 930 exhausts go for around $500 complete depending on condition..

Thanks, I plan to build my own "Y" using a homegrown combo of waistgate and turbo collector so I can use a modern and perhaps smaller turbo. I think the consensis was the T04e? with 54 trim. I'll need to studdy up on this first. I plan to use my test pipe to collect both left and right headers and do whatever welding needs to be done to fit it all as close to that as I can. As a step to the side, I'll try to add a cat after the turbo. We'll see. EFI rules! I'll implement that and afford more space for a smallish intercooler. I like the idea of staying away from the turbo tail. "I use a carrera 3.0 tail". I have a small Bosail muffler which sounds absollutly marvelous to the ears in NA application. I took it off because it attracted so much attention. I know it would be perfict with the turbo before it. Email me for a sound bite if you want.

The pre-muffler or test pipe for a SC/Carrera is too large in diameter for a turbo application. You need to take a close look at the design on the turbo Y-pipe and copy it for best results.

Good, well let us know how it works. Do you have an air fuel ratio monitor? I would be really interested to know how it works for the 911sc with turbo. Have fun.

When I hooked up my LM-1 I found out that my SC goes to 12 to 1 under full boost all by itself so I don't want or need any more fuel.

I was a little hessitant to spent that kind of cash but now that I have it I am very glad I did. I figure it is nearly a must have for an aftermarket turbo system.

I am currently gathering the parts to do the turbo install.
I've read from good source that the Lambda system can handle the enrichment required for say 5-6# of boost but, this boost controlled WUR surely is a good idea and makes further enrichment (if required) much simpler than the hobbs switch/7th injector method commonly used.

I'm currently considering lowering the CR of my 1980 SC to allow higher boost levels.

Good idea, and you have an o2 sensor as you mentioned which I don't have. Like I said, If this helps as advertised, These are cheep at the junk yard. It's for the audi 500 turbo.

What is the general opinion of the most cost effective way to drop the CR into a range that would allow for 8-9# of boost on the '80 SC ?

Why lower compression?
I run 7 to 8 psig boost with 9.3 to 1 cr, and I don't have a dog below 3000 rpm.
If you run it a tad rich under boost, keep the timing conservative, and have a decent intercooler you should be able to run 8 lbs or more easy without messing with the internals of your engine.
One of the bad things about an early 930 was the low compression ratio.
Not much power when off boost.

Ok, i was under the impression that 6# would be the limit with the 9.3 CR.
An intercooler was part of my plan (not sure of which unit would fit the best) and with this boost controlled WUR, maybe things will work out decent.
