Does a '72 run "warmer" than, say a 71 or 73?
Does anyone know if a stock 2.4 '72 will necessarily run "warmer" than it's counterparts like . .lets say . . a '73?
I mostly wonder due to the smaller capacity of the oil system. 25% less oil = hotter temps, right? My warmed-up highway temps hover around 215-220, maybe 230 on a really really hot day. It doesn't bother me, but it just gets me thinking. Anyone?

I don't think the less capacity really would increase the running temp as much as that with less capacity it would reach that temp quicker. All else being equal, of course. Kind of like boiling water in a microwave...less water to boil takes less time, but it will still boil. The 1972 "S" models all came with a fender mounted cooler. Road use, I've never gone past 225. That was crossing the Utah Salt flats on my way to Aspen in July of 1976...

Mine gets up there also. I was thinking that it was ok, but sometimes i worry a little. But look likes its the norm.

I get about similar. City driving on a cool day is about 175, highway driving on a really hot day I'd see 230, maybe 240 at the track. I'd start to worry if I saw 250. (my temps are actually all celsius - 175 = 80, 230 = 110, 240 = 115, 250 = 120). No front oil cooler.

I forgot to mention that I, too have no additional oil cooler. Unless you count the cool collar HAHAHAHAHA.
It's good to know that I don't (necessarily) have a problem. However, I think I'll have a look at the cooling tin also next time I have the engine out.

i have a virgin 82k 72 911 it was 92f all day no jump in temp. no lonng stop lights... cma.....

My 73 2.4 CIS runs at 210 in normal driving, higher if run hard - no external cooler. My 69 2.0 E engine runs at 180 in normal driving - no external cooler.

My 72 runs around 180 normal driving with 2.7 rs pistons. When I use to run it on the track for fun at sears (max 4 laps) it would get around 205 max. This was without a front oil cooler.
