Sold The 911SC - Thanks to All Pelicans
Hi All,
I sold my 1979 911SC and within weeks I regretted selling. Both my Wife and I missed the P-Car. I am retired and the Porsche turned our week-end and day trips into "events" where the getting there was as much fun as the destination. Plus the occasional trip out Mines Rd. & Del Puerto Canyon (the Bay Area guy know what I am talking about) were always awesome. My wife doesn't drive the p-car but appreciates a drive through the twisites and the music those flat six engines produce. Anyhow, shortly after the sale, we decided it was time to start looking for a replacement. The 911 coupe has the classic lines but we decided to think about a cabrio. I am not a big fan of the looks of a 911 convertable (just my opinion) so started looking at Boxsters and ended up buying a BMW Z3 Roadster. We've had the Z3 for a month and like the car a lot. It's missing the flat six whine but the BMW straight six has some music of it's own. I would like to thank Pelican Parts for hosting this board and the board members that make the board what it is. Specal thanks to John Walker, who has given great advice to so many of us. I spend too much time on this board so although I may lurk occasionly - I have found a home on a very active, Z3 board. (already jumped in and defended the Boxster when some guy started ragging on them) Good luck and God bless ...............Bill

I've owned a few BMW's over the years and loved the inline 6 engines. I really regret selling my '88 535i and every once in a while think I'd like to have one for a daily driver.

Just curious as to what made you go with the Z3 over the 986?

Z3's are beautiful, trouble-free quiet, tame little roadsters. I had one for 9 months. Bored me, sold it, bought ( what turned out to be ) a crappy Carrera, and I love it. They're great cats, but not for Porsche quys.

Ray: I was looking for a Silver car w/black interior. Every Boxster I looked at, that hadn't been abused, had the red or black/red interior. The Z3 I found had low-miles and was exactly what I was looking for with complete history and had never been abused. When I got the SC I went for best condition but settled on color, never was really happy with the color....decided not to settle this time around......just decided to try something different.
silvercar: So now that your a seasoned Porsche owner, you know what sportscars are for us "Porsche Guys"?? That's the great thing about Pelicans, most of us don't have the P-Car attitude that a lot of people associate with P-Car owners. I owned and wrenched on my 911 for 7 years. Porsche builds great sportscars and I may own another 911 in the future but this time around it's a BMW Z3. I've heard BMW also builds great sportscars ![]()
