Master cylinder leaking like a sieve. What to do?

Is there a rebuild kit for a master cylinder? Mine is all over the place, bleeding from about every orifice. It's a 69 T, so nothing special with the cylinder. Should I just replace it with a decent used one? If so, can I update/backdate to a better one? Any advantage to a certain year?

Thanks.

I've got a "lightly" used 19mm MC that came out of my '74 when I upgraded to a 930 setup with a 23mm MC. PM me with an offer if you're interested.

I read earlier that you not try to rebuild a master cylinder. I remember the guy in the post said "Those are your brakes man. Your brakes!" Of possible interest to you, I just replaced the MC on my Jeep today. Man, that was easy. It is a dual circuit MC, and my fronts were not working at all, but they are now. Hopefully this is a skill I can apply, if needed, to my 81SC someday.

I don't see why you couldn't use a functioning used one though. Good luck!

There are rebuild kits available, but they're not as cheap as you might think, and if the cylinder bore is dodgy, it probably won't end as you planned.

I'd just buy a new one and quit mucking with it. Don't scrimp on brakes,

ianc

I agree with ianc, the rebuild kit runs over $70, but a new mastercylinder is $114: peace of mind will cost less than $50...makes sense to me to go with the new.

The kit is $70, but I just paid $198 for a new one from Pelican. IF considering the kit, don't order it until you open up the old one and make sure the bore is not pitted......I sprung for the new m/c in my '73 recently figuring with that many years, it was the best thing to do. Yours is older yet!
