Throttle Linkage Question
I have a 73 cis. I have been playing with the hand throttle lately because the car idles at 6500 when the trottle is all the way up. I can't adjust the clamp on the cable an further so I think the linkages by the throttle body need to be adjusted. I was playing with the throttle and watching the throttle linkages move. So when the throttle is all the way up, the gas peddle drop a few inches and the throttle linkage moves maybe a quarter of the way. As I said previously this makes the rpms jump to redline. Now when I just push the gas peddle all the way to the floor the throttle linkage moves further almost to the stop. This doesn't make sense. How can it redline when the peddle is down a couple of inches and still function properly while driving? The car drives and idles fine.
Thanks. - Jamie ![]() Last edited by jcwolff; 06-10-2006 at 12:59 PM.. |

It's been about 18 years since I had my 73.5 T, but ...
Could your hand throttle be on backward? Although I do seem to recall how my hand throttle would pull it up to around 4000 rpm when it was warm. Good luck. (Damn, I miss that '73.5!)

There is a hole in the tunnel next to the hand throttle where you adjust the piece ('screw nipple') that clamps to the throttle rod. There should be a gap between that piece and the plastic 'valve lever' that is attached to the hand throttle lever. With the hand throttle up, the plastic 'valve lever' piece pushes on the 'screw nipple' clamp piece and pushes forward the throttle rod. It sounds like all you need to do is loosen the screw nipple, move it forward a little bit and retighten.
