that would be the one in the post, i busted my a** to get down there first from baltimore. i get the post up here for just that reason, all the good cars seem to be in northern VA. When i saw that one i almost flipped.
|
i was supprised when i went to look at it that so far i would have to give it a rust free bill of health. around here any p car i have ever picked up has had atleast some minor rust in the front pan and around the battery boxes, this thing has always been garaged and there is no rust to be found. i was very suprised.

The last original soft back top targa I read a classified for had a price on it resembling a Dino Ferrari. Well maybe not that high, but it was high. Don't know if he got it though. Guess you can always ask, don't mean you will get it.
Very nice car you have there, but I guess you know that.:) |

Looks great !
If I am not mistaken, thats the kind of model our present King of Sweden used to pick up his Queen in. There is this classic pic from a gas station at the French Riviera. She fell for the manīs automobile, not his occupation. :D |
Lets see where this one ends up on evul bay. seems to be a sister to yours.

Beautiful Targa! I sure wish mine had a soft window in the rear, that's cool!!
|
its pretty nice having the option to go cabrio with a roll bar. i had originally bought this to re sell because the price was so good. but the more i mess with it the more i think that this is one of those that you look back 30 years later and regret selling. so i think im going to keep it.
|
well i have taken it upon myself to restore this car to its original likeness. where should i look to try to figure out what this car originally had installed, ie. horn grills, shift knob, stereo, seats, mirrors. etc. if im going to do this, i want to do it right. thanks

I'm late to the party but this is what I know.
There were around 50-60 SWT's produced for the '69 model year. That's 912 and 911 combined. This estimate was from the man from PCNA whose signature is on my COA. I cannot confirm that number. The Soft Window WAS an option in '69. The earlier post is incorrect. First Targa's were all Soft in '67. Glass was the option for '68. The glass/hard window became standard in '69 leaving the soft as the option. This option was available through '71. I know of 1 '70 and 1 '71. So here's my question. Do your 1969 SWT's have rear seats or the luggage compartment? Mine has seats and some folks say they should all be rear seat delete. BTW The '68 911L in the "Excellence" article was parked next to me at Parade. Check out the pictures on this board. |
mine has seats too. and i had also read that it was suppose to have a seat delete. im supprised that there are that few soft windows in both 911 and 912, but thats pretty cool that i managed get get my hands on one. does yours have the wood wheel or the black one? The more I read the more i think that the wood wheel I have isnt factory original which is to bad because i really like it, but from what i see its worth a pretty penny.

Definitly special...very nice Targa !!!
|
I think you should sell it to me. Very sweet! Congrats on a great find!

The "mandatory" rear seat delete for US '69 SWT's appears to be going down in flames.
If the low production count is accurate then several of them are in the PNW. Seems odd but it's all we have to go on so far. The wood wheel is from an earlier model and is bigger than the stock '69. You can also use the steering wheel from a 914/914-6 which is slightly smaller than the '69 but appears correct. I have one on my 911. It's a good fit. What's the story on your 912? |
i thought it was bigger. one of the PO put power 944 seats in it and with the bigger wheel i could barely get my leg between the wheel and the seat. i have since pulled the seats and am looking for a pair with headrests that are period correct. I ordered the COA but i guess its going to take a while to get. maybe if there are a few others on here with the soft window they can chime in on seat or seat delete.

This '69 T is beautiful. I really like the 'look' of the soft-window Targa. However, I also really like the way my hard-window Targa creates a cocoon in the cabin and keeps the airflow from blowing heavily through the cabin with the top off. I'd be tempted to convert to the soft-window 'look' but don't want to give up the 'feel' of my hard-window Targa.
How does the air flow through the cabin work with a soft-window Targa? |
the only way i have ever driven it in the short while that i have owned it is with the top off and the window down, covertible with a roll bar basically. maybe 69 soft targa could better answer your question. since i have pulled the seats mine isnt really driveable at the moment.
|
I'd say the cocoon and therefore the feel are intact with the window zipped.
The advantage of the soft window is options. Top on and back window down is handy when you want a break from the direct Sun. Windows up gives you a 'cocoon' with the back wide open. |
the sister is coming
Well the deals been done now all i have to do is go pick the sister up. 69 912 soft window.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1160524964.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1160524971.jpg
