A/C Upgrade -- UPDATE
A couple of months ago I posted the story of upgrading the A/C components and hoses in my 1989 930 here:
http://forums.rennlist.com/rennforums/showthread.php?t=267009 I had the car out yesterday when temperatures in Dallas exceeded 100 degrees. I'm happy to report I was still getting temperature readings in the low 30's with one of those thermometers you stick into the center vent. Using the middle speed on the fan it was very comfortable in the car, just like in my other "normal" cars. What a difference that makes in being able to enjoy it! The kit I used from retroair.com is obviously very effective, a good upgrade for a 930 which, due to its intercooler taking half the decklid grill space, is definitely "condenser challenged". I am very pleased with it. I am also sure the meticulous care in charging the system -- done for me by a fellow Porsche owner who is a real pro with this stuff -- was the key to its excellent performance. His efforts complemented the good hardware. |
Great write-up! Thank you for sharing.

John, great write up.
What brand is the rear condenser?? what is the size?? where did you got it?? need one for my '84 930. Thanks in advance. |
Nice report and some good tips. It is possible to achieve working A/C with our 900-series cars.

Jordi,
I got my kit from www.retroair.com. My write-up with pics is at the link I provided in my post above. I believe the condenser is 14" square. It's a bolt-in replacement for the factory condenser. It uses the same factory mounting brackets but the inlet and outlet are in different locations. The Retroair-provided hoses and fittings are made for it. Retroair sells it as part of their kit. You can see all the components on their web site but it includes all the major components like evaporator, condenser, barrier hoses, plus other smaller items. |
John, If you don't mind me asking what did this cost. I did not see it posted anywhere in the writeup.
thanks |
None of the links seem to work and I can't seem to find retro air.

Retro Air site
Does anyone have a telephone number for RetroAir? I'm having problems accessing the website.
