Why is posting photos here SO difficult!!

Why is it so difficult to post photos on Pelican!!

Each time I try to post photos I get the following message:

"Content-Type: text/html; charset=ISO-8859-1"

No matter what size, file type or shape.

Someone please explain why this is such a problem for me.

It shouldn't be. Just go to the link Click here to Upload a Photo.. Then hit the browze button in the window that pops up. Choose the pic you want from your files and click it. You should see a link to your pic in the popup window.

Then hit upload in the same window. If the pic is too big it won't load. Otherwise your good to go.

Not for me. No matter what size or file type I make the photo it won't upload.
Am I the only one this happens to?

Check the photo download tips when you post and adjust to a smaller size. I'm challenged to say the least when it comes to computers but was able to post them second try.

I had trouble with my sizes being too big. Typically making them 75% of their original size fixed it. Also, ad a ".jpg" suffix to your photo file names and it may fix the problem. Worked for me.

Yes, save your pic files as *.jpg. The board will not recognize a bitmap or any file other than .jpg.

another thing, if on a Mac this BBS may not see the file extensions. And Now even though the message says images must be under 2 megs I believe the limit is now 100K.

So make sure you have a .jpg or .gif or (I wouldn't try due to file size) .bmp & keep um under 100,000 bytes.

spaces in picture names can be a problem. for other sites, I use photobucket.com and link to the images.

IIRC the program doesn't like spaces in the file names either. The image below is 876 KB and was uploaded from my mac.

VinnyC....you're not the only one. I have the exact same problem. I've done all the resizing and no-space file name recommendations...all with no luck. I tried from work today and once it worked and then another time it didn't. Strange problem.

Wayne is working on getting it fixed

Vinny, I think it is temperamental.

Try typing a few of your words into your script box first before you go to upload/browse for pictures.

It's squirrely, I tell ya!

check your images. open your image. Right click it and select properties. The image above is roughly 63K well under the 100K mark.

Problems:
1. file size too big
2. resolution too high (hit Ctl-R in Irfanview)
3. Name has spaces
4. Name is too long
5. Not a .jpg file

too bad it isn't more user frinedly but there are probably a million pics up already so you can make it work.

If you don't have an image program....most email clients will auto reduce for ease of transfer...send them to yourself and repost.

I've had plenty of problems as well using images sized to 800x600 as recommended, under the 100k limit in size, 8.3 file names - no spaces or special characters, .jpg and still got errors....

I'm no computer whiz but I think that ISO-8859-1 message has something to do with XML validation. The stuff we send to post at Pelican has to be interpreted correctly (different computer platforms and languages).
