Need 915 Knowledge
I have a 915 trans and 2nd gear is terrible (and first is touch and go). I have the opportunity to buy a 915 trans for $500 from a wrecked car. Would it make more sense to rebuild my trans instead. If so, can someone direct me to some literature on the inner workings of a 915 trans and how exactly one replaces the synchro, sliders, etc.??

Hans, I beleive that the best source for information on your trans might be this website. These guys are very good and the site is an unbeleivable parts resource.
First thing to do is make sure that the forks are adjusted correctly. I am going to assume that you have a 1972 or newer car. There is a spot on the trany that houses forks and they might be loose. It could be the syncros... sliders or gear teeth, but I would look to eliminate an other possibilities. With regard to the wreck, will they warranty the trans from the wreck? What makes you thing this one is better than the one you have. After hard wrecks, I have seen cracked cases. Be very careful. Talk to the guys at Pelican, they are very nice and terribly helpful. |
