New front windshiled not tight?!

I just had my '73 repainted along with a host of other things to really bring her back to life. Having a problem with the front glass though. It and the seal and trim are all OEM but the glass feels loose. If I press on the outside of the glass it moves a bit and I swear I could pop it out if I gave it a push from inside. Installer says it is right. By the way I removed the old one and it was glued in from the factory. This one has no glue. Anybody have any experience with this sort of thing? I have very little confidence at this point and that is no way to feel when driving a car like this. I would appriate any feed back.

They are supposed to be glued in. The glue also stops leaks. Go back and tell your installer to put some sealer in.

73's are not glued in .......

Aftermarket seals (instead of factory) can be a cause..as can the lack of the metal center "ridge" the forces the seal "outward" in two directions...toward the body and toward the glass....

Mine wasn't glued, nor is it now. I replaced my windsheild and i too thought it wasn't tight....esp at the corners. THe car never sees rain, so it's not a major concern, but I've always wondered. Of course, it's been that way for 14 years now...Geeez...thats a long freekin time! Seems like yesterday.

I was talking to a friend about it and he thinks that there was a lot of
"uniqueness" to the cars back then. Like each windsheild opening was slightly different. Then there's the glass.....

Thanks for the replies. I spoke to a service rep for Porsche and he tells me that they are not glued in but that some early cars had a retention fence snapped onto the metal lip of the car windshield frame. I still think it is looser then it should be but it is comforting to think that it will stay put for 14+ years. By then I will probably want to paint it again anyways. I drive it a lot.

The shield floats in the frame. It's meant to be kicked out in a pinned driver crash for escape. My stock factory install used some kind of fitted flexible stuff to center the glass. I also added some dum dum to prevent the glass from eventually lowering and taking the gasket with it. When it falls you'll be able to see openings at the upper frame corners allowing water entrance.

It took me 3 install and removals to get it the way I wanted. It may not bee profesionally correct but it's perfect for me.
