Cool Moved to Alpharetta need some info..

I recently moved to Alpharetta (off windward) and I finally have my 911 finished (if that’s possible). I wanted to know if anyone lives around this area and where any P-car places are. Finally, it would be great to meet up with any Porsche enthusiasts!

-also I need the rear end of my car aligned if any one has any suggestions please let me know.
Thanks to all the Pelicanites!
Neil

Used to live in north Ga. The Peach State PCA is a great one. Good track and autocross days. There are some good shops around but I can't recall where. I do remember one out by the Oasis, a "gentlemans club" in Norcross. There are great driving roads just north of you off of 515. Just head toward Hiawassee and turn off on any road. Hiawassee to Helen is a great rd. Hiawassee to Clayton also is great. If you go to Blairsville, cross over Blood mountain toward Cleveland. Any road leaving Blairsville going west is good. Jasper to Chatsworth is also a good run. Outside of Jasper is the town of Talking Rock. Go visit the Marble mansion and continue on that road back to Atlanta. You are now in a beautiful area to enjoy your cars handling abilities.. Watch the cops in all the small towns...they are waiting for you. The back roads are pretty safe.

Watch the board here we post events some times, they usually start "Atlanta Pelicans". There is an Autocross by some club almost every weekend that you can join. Also, every Saturday morning there is a car guy thing at a Donut shop in Chamblee. I forget the name of it. Finally there is a car thing at Giovannis Restaurant Sat, PM up near you.

Neil,
Welcome to the area. There are many pelicans here in the area as well as events and other car guys as well.

I live in Marietta which is very close to you and work in Roswell. There is a shop in Alpharetta that I use when I can't do the work myself.

It is a Napa shop but the owner Kerry Singley is a porsche guy and they do good work. There are other shops in the area as well that others will tell you about.

Glad to welcome another pelican in the group.

Oh yeah as Eric said there is a get together at Giovannis rest.
this Sat at 4 pm.

It is once a month. Pm me if you want directions.

Thanks to everyone that responded. GA is a beautiful state (from Indiana anyway!). I also look forward to meeting everyone and I am going to go check out that NAPA store.

Here's a link to the "Donut Derelicts". Good place to hang out on Saturday morning.

North Georgia is full of great roads. If you really want "an experience" this is not too far away:

Hello.

I just bought an '83 SC, and per the Peach State Porsche Club, here are a couple of referralls:

Kinetic Speed Shop is off of I-985 and Friendship Road; phone number is 770-271-1577, ask for Bob Sanderson; Performance Imports is off of I-285 on Peachtree Industrial, phone 770-457-5550, ask for Peter Wendt.

You can mention that Dick Kjellsen (indirectly) referred you.

Good luck!

Actually Kerry owned his own shop for years but outgrew it, so he bought the NAPA shop in Alpharetta. Great guy, and fair..

Repectfully disagree with regard to Reggie at Pro-formance place in Marietta. He screwed me and several others I know. Major CROOK in my opinion. PM me if you want details about this pseudo-"christian" *********. I'll put in my usual plug for Jack Lewis in Norcross. Good guy, strait shooter.

For an honest and straigh-shooting p-car mechanic, check out Ryland Mills in Marietta.

Ryland's Specialized Import Service
2002 Airport Industrial Park Drive
Marietta, Georgia 30060
770-951-9305

Ryland is a stand up guy who has been in business for over 20 years.

He's been highly recommended by other members of this BBS and after the experience I just had with him fixing my 86, I whole-heartedly agree with everything positive that's been said about him. I'll be posting the specifics of his repair in this thread when I have a bit more time.

Thanks, Ryland!!!

Randy

Welcome to the area! Giovanni get together this weekend (Saturday ~3pm) which is always a great time and place to meet fellow car enthusiasts. PM for details if you want to attend.

As to getting work done - Motorwerks Racing is my favourite. Not to far away from Alpharetta either.

Welcome to Georgia!
I live in the Alpharetta area (off Nesbitt Ferry) not that far from you, so if you ever see a Sepia Brown - 73 911 toolin around with a plate: A73911, wave me down... The 400 corridor going north is always a fun ride to Dalonega.

So many P-shops in town and so many opinions.! I believe I have tried them all and only trust "Rattlesnake Motors"! But, Marc will never open his own shop (hey Marc).

Many of the great shops like Franz Blam have passed the torch onto the next generation and many have had high turnover with qualified techs. I would agree with many of the opinions posted here, but you really need to latch onto one you can trust and is fair.

Bob Sanderson I understand left Performance so I do not know just how good the stable of techs are over near Doraville without his supervision. Jack Lewis although never having worked on my car has always been very helpful over the phone on trouble shooting and has a strong reputation in town. I would seek him out as one high on the list. I agree with the Reggie comment and have stopped going to him for any service. Ryland (Rylands) in Marietta on the other hand is VERY experienced and another great source. I only dealt with Kerry once (now runs the NAPA shop) and I found them very pricey when they ran out of International in Roswell. I have yet to check out his new store.

Its good to get feedback from the P-head locals on this board. Their is alot of great knowledge here so your in pretty good hands.

Bob
