Missing oil tank sender

I have just discovered that I don't appear to have a sender unit or any means of fitting one in my 70T.
I presume it is supposed to fit in the recessed area in the picture.
I know the gauge is not as reliable as the dipstick but I'm curious why there is no evidence of it ever having been there !

Not really possible to modify tank. There is a heavy bolt ring brazed in place when manufactured to support sender. Saying that anything can be done.

could it be an aftermarket tank ?

also are you sure you are looking from the right angle . cant really get perspective from that picture.
edit: actually according to google images it should be on the back side opposite the filter side between the tank and the body.

Weird .

It’s a factory low option car. Just one of the things they left off.

I think you are looking from the wrong side. It is a bit hard from the photo but it appears that way.

Does the rear of the tank have the mesh grill to protect from rocks?

I had a low option 72T and it didn’t have an oil level gauge it was blanked out - I never even thought to check if there was a sender, probably not.

The view is looking back toward the tail lights between the fender and tank.
The filter and filler are on the opposite side.
I'm pretty sure the recess behind the stone guard is where the mounting for the sender should be.

It may have not come with one when it was new. Do you have a level gauge inside the car?

Yes it does have a gauge that's the odd thing.
Its been off the road for a few years as I'm slowly restoring , the tank came to light when i started re wiring and realized it wasn't there

If the gage is original to the car, the tank has been replaced. When restoring my 73 in the 80’s, I bought a new tank from Stoddard, it was a non sender tank and it was all they had, no sender tanks available.

That sounds like a logical explanation , I wasn't aware that a non sender tank was even available . Thanks to everyone for your input.
