Motronic AFM to MAF

Has anyone used the Promax MAF kit on a Carrera 3.2?

My car was running poorly at part throttle, hesitation, surging etc... Searched THIS board and found post on the AFM and worn contact path under wiper arm. I pull the AFM, took it apart, and found the wiper arm had worn through the carbon contact. I altered the swipe path, reinstalled, and the car runs great. No part throttle hesitation or surging (it was getting pretty hard on the motor mounts).

Anyway,

Never having taken a AFM apart, they seem to be a very crude device. I was surprised by the spring rate of the flapper resistance spring. This must have an effect on the throttle response. A hot wire mass flow meter with a suitable signal converter to the motronic seems to make sense. Wonder if anyone has used this product or similar before I spend a thousand dollars.

Thanks!

The SciVision MAF Kit utilises the latest in MAF technology - the Bosch HFM5 Air Mass Meter (found in many late model performance cars). This provides an accurate air mass voltage signal to the SciVision processing computer which then relays a corrected AFM (Air Flow Meter) voltage signal to your car's ECU

The spring resistance does not have as big an effect on throttle response as you would think. What does have the greatest effect in poor throttle response is the over rich mixture signal the DME gets from a poorly adjusted air flow meter.

Before you go to the trouble and expense of a MAF, try removing the AFM cover and readjusting the pointer clockwise to see how much response you can get.

If you can fine tune the pointer so the AFM gives the DME what it wants to see, the results will be more satisfying than any chip or MAF could ever equal IMHO.

Cheers,

Joe
