Porsche Crest Cayenne S

Ok this is the wrong forum, but it seems nobody reads the Cayenne forum...

I am seriously looking at a Cayenne S as an addition to the 87 Carrera we own. I heard Cayennes had some serious quality problems in the beginning. I am looking at a very clean '04 Cayenne S with less than 80k miles for a little over $42.000. What do you guys think? What worries me is that the production date for the car is 08/03 on VIN sticker, it is however supposedly model year 04? Did they fix all the major issues by then? Does anybody know? Maybe somebody has access to that information?
Thanks guys!
Again sorry for posting in wrong forum!

I owned one of the 1st Ss off the boat, an '03. 3 problems in 77,000 miles (water pump failure at 25K, front driveshaft replacement due to vibration at 10K and brake pad replacement due to squealing from too hard a compound used on the 03s at 10K). No computer/electrical glitches - those are the worrisome ones. More problems with my '04 M3 for sure!

There were some issues and after some research I personally would not get one prior to the '05 model year and even then PCNA has not addressed issues and updates properly. In addition to the physical issues, a lot of it revolves around customer service issues that PCNA just doesn't seem to care about its customer.

Do you plan on towing w/it? I was, until I read the Cayenne Forum on Rennlist and from there did some homework.

In fact after reading that forum and followed up w/ more research, I decided to forget about getting a Cayenne anytime soon.

Lots of good info: http://forums.rennlist.com/rennforums/forumdisplay.php?s=&daysprune=30&f=77

Good luck with your decision.

My 2004 Cayenne S has 35K+ miles in a year and a half and has performed flawlessly. Some minor trim pieces needed replacement, brake pads due to squealing, tire out of balance, etc. However, my dealer has done everything under warranty and has performed all the TSB's and updates. I also got the extended warranty 5 year/100k miles miles and will not be caught dead in it out of warranty. Of course that applies to all modern Porsches and other European cars.

Get the car CPO'd, extended warranty and have fun. They are really amazing vehicles.

We have a 2005 Cayenne S with now 15k miles. We have never had a single problem. The car chews its tires (I think there is a problem with the toe/camber) but apart from that it has been a fantastic car.

I love how they manage to make this truck drive and feel like a car. The steering response is fantastic (exactly what you'd expect from a Porsche) and once it gets moving the car is decently quick and nimble (if you can say that about a 4,000lbs car).

All in all we are very pleased with it. It is used as the family car to transport all the gear you need with a newborn and a 2yr old.

At the weekend I prefer to drive it than my CLK 55 AMG.

Good luck!
