What do you think?
I bought SSIs on ebay and ordered an M&K. Not very experienced working on my Porsche, I decided to do it myself after reading posts here and after Jason from Pelican told me he's never broken a stud on an 81-83 SC exhaust and has done several. I live in the snow belt, and my barrel nuts, heater valves, etc. are quite rusted. Well, I snapped the stud on the first barrel nut I tried. It's also tough to use heat underneath a car resting on jackstands. Should I quit while I'm behind and get a pro to do it? (I also need to change the heater valves.)

Since you're in the snow belt, I'd leave it to a pro. But I'd get a LOT of references. No need to pay someone to break them, you're already good at that! Best of luck.
P.S. That's assuming you did all the things you were supposed to do. Soak them with PB Blaster or Kroil repeatedly for a week. Use a MAPP torch and use it properly, etc. Did you?

I'd leave it to a pro. It was tough with the engine upside down on a stand. Even then I had problems with a couple of them. Its going to take more heat than a mapp gas torch as well. The nuts need to be glowing dull red. Sears sells a small oxy-mapp torch which gets hot enough. If going this route buy plenty of oxygen bottles because it goes real fast.

+1 on the heat to dull red. And, as it cools, I spray the PB on it. Seems to suck it up that way after the initial burn off. Never had a fire yet, YMMV, keep an extinguisher handy.

I also had a helper trying to crack them loose when I had the torch on them. It was a real pain in the &*^ job.

Get them to a dull red and pull the exhaust. If you break anymore I sell a tool that you can use to fix the broken ones. It's a real crap shoot trying to drill the studs freehand, the tool guides the drill right down the center of the stud.
