case cleaning

do you know of anyway of cleaning the engine cases of a 911. I've tried various part cleaners and power washing them. they are totally disassembled and now I'm going with a wire brush wheel on a drill, but this is a very slow and not great method. I was thinking of getting them sandblasted but not sure if this is a good idea. Any ideas would be great
thanks

When my 914 trans was rebuilt, the case was cleaned (quite well, it was really grungy!) by a process called "cold tanking." I don't know what that means, or if it good or bad for the metal, etc., but it sure was clean!
