Replace or Repair broken Flag Mirror?
I need some advice. I had the passenger side mirror on my carrera kicked of by some friendly passerby and in doing so broke off one of the the metal tab at the base of the mirror. I have a replacement mirror that is primed and ready for paint, but my question is, would it be easier to paint and replace the entire mirror by removing the door panel, or can i disassemble both mirrors and just swap the base?
|
I'm a little confused but...
Either way you have to take off the base, and at least paint the new base right? If so, I would just swap the whole thing, it connects with a mirror motor harness connector... unless your paint is off-color or something, then I might consider keepin the old flag with the new base. |
The main difference is taking off the door panel and repainting. I'm not sure which is easier, pulling apart the mirror, or pulling apart the door panel.

the mirror disassembly doesn't look too hard...pm your email and I'll send you some info if you want to go that route

PM sent, thanks!

I don't think you need to remove the door panel to remove the mirror.
There is an allen screw on the mirror that loosens the grip on the holes in the door. Check out how it works with your new mirror. |
mirror removal and complete dissasembly is a piece of cake!
Once you disconnect the wires you will need a cheap 3/8 star socket bit from Autozone or another crappy chain to unscrew the spring loaded bolt holding things together. Take a peak at this thread: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/239808-flag-mirror-help.html |
