I like the idea of the heat solution (Awesome car btw). is it similar to the later cars? Or did they use their own solution? If so, care to divulge the parts list? That sounds like a good mod.

Lateapex911- I'm not sure if it's similar to 964/993 systems, but I can tell you what it's made up of. You use Bischoff HE's (which are more efficient and were worth at least an extra 15hp on 993's) with one side (I think it's the right HE) requiring the exhaust flanges being cut off, flipped around and rewelded. These mate up to the exhaust studs on the 964 heads. If you use 993 heads/engine, the heads have 2 sets of stud holes and you won't need to flip the flanges, just move the studs to the other holes. As far as I know, the heater hose just routes to the heater control boxes but I believe the fans are mounted, inline, on the outside of the heater control boxes. There are two switches in the car to turn on the fans, which pull air through the HE's through the openings, which have had grates/shields welded on to keep debris & water out. I'm not absolutely sure about the mounting location of the fans (or the fan make/model) but will find out. I like the solution Auto Associates came up with, especially since it cleans up the engine and gets rid of several large, ugly hoses.
JeremyD- that's the proper air bleed-off plate for an RSR-spec engine. I believe that the factory used it to actually decrease the amount of air cooling the engine. I think that race engines were over-cooled at higher RPM's. I will also confirm this, but the plate is correct as-is. I will post a dyno sheet as soon as I can, but they dyno'd the car last week at AA, during a brief warm-spell...the car made 357 hp & 273.7 ft lbs AT THE WHEELS! That means over 415 hp & over 315 ft lbs at the flywheel! Couldn't have done it without the 12.5:1 CR & 110 oct though! Thanks Auto Assoc! |

JeremyD- Yes, it's a 3.8 (3.74 liters), but not the slip-fit 3.8 cylinders. They are the ones that require all the extra machining & O-rings as in a real RSR motor.

JeremyD- I was wrong...the air bleed plate was put in by the factory to prevent cavitation of the fan in the upper extremes of the RPM range.
Oregonmon- I wish I had a way to record & post high-quality video/audio. I heard it running the other day...it really sounds good but is a little on the loud side:eek:. |

Tedmunson- Thanks! (& thanks SteveM911!) You nailed it! That's exactly the look I was after: simple, clean and similar to a factory works car. Where applicable I went for better quality over the original IROC...suspension & brakes are a good example- brembo GTP's & ERP. Wasn't interested in creature comforts (other than heat...there can be frost on the windshield at some events at WGI & VIR!). With no sound deadening material, there will be substantial cockpit noise but that's the overall "feel" I was after. Auto Associates did dyno the car and it made made 357 hp & 273.7 ft lbs at the wheels which translates to approx 420 hp & 322 ft lbs at the flywheel. I can't wait to drive it. (Won't be driving it much though...picked up 40 gal of the 110 the other day and it cost $300!.....OUCH).

Thats more power than you should see with a TRICK exhaust system! how did you get so much power from stock heat exchangers? Its nice to see you have the suspension and brakes to back it up. your car is going to be incredible to drive. You need to get toghether with other cars like this at the track, you guys would have a blast. How many pelican members have similar cars?

aaocinc- The guys at Auto Associates were a little surprised as well. This is the first time that they put this type of exhaust on which is essentially a full RSR race motor. I was told that it was critical that they flowbenched the bischoff HE's attached to Ben's muffler so they could choose cam specs to eliminate any flatspots. They asked that the cam specs remain proprietary but they said people wouldn't believe the specs even if they were posted. They've done their homework and know what works with what.
In the future I can bolt on a full race exhaust and change out the cams to gain a few hp and approx 20 ft lbs of torque...if I decide to give up the heat! |

Can you post the dyno curve? or tq + hp vs. rpm? My 3.6 put out similar tq. at the wheels (275), but HP peaked at 275, also. I suppose yours spins much higher than mine. I suspect fuel costs will just be a drop in the bucket, so you might as well pony up and enjoy that beauty! Don't save it for the next owner :D Doug |
Will do Doug...I will have to scan the printout at work tomorrow & pdf it. I'll be able to post it Wed. BTW- redline is 8300 but the numbers decline after 7500 so no much sense going above that. If I shift at 7K, the motor should last a very long time.
