ac switch
I just recently had my compressor replaced b/c obvious leak. Everything was fine and then all of a sudden ac just turned offf by itself. Moving fan switch did nothing. Then w/o explanation it turns on again a half hour later. Sometimes it works and sometimes nothing. Any ideas?

Try switching out your A/C relay with a known good relay....I recently had this problem on my front A/C condensor blower fan relay.

Tell us what year P-car you have and we can help you locate the A/C relay; as far as the switch itself is concerned, you can bypass it and see if the blower comes on. Any time I have an issue like this, I start with the basic stuff...fuses first, then the relay (if applicable), then get out the multimeter and start checking for proper voltage and ground all along the circuit. In this case, if it's not a defective fuse or relay, it COULD be the switch, the blower fan resistor, the AC high/low pressure switch or a wiring problem on one of these components.

A wire with a couple of alligator clips will check the switch. Brown is ground. Red is usually power. I would try the mulitmeter process first. If you have no power at the fuse, easy, replace fuse. Power to fuses but fan or compressor doesn't come on, it could be high/low switch, relay or bad switch. My switch was easy to figure out, warm, black and if I moved the wire, it came on.
