a/c hoses
A bit of advice about replacing your a/c hoses. Before paying $200 or more for a hose from a Porsche oriented mail order house, try going to a local a/c shop and getting what you need custom made. I recently needed a new hose and contacted the leading Porsche a/c mail retailer. I was quoted a price of $197.50 for a new barrier hose. I asked why it was so much, and was informed that the factory list for this was $240.
Then I checked the a/c shop down the street from my house. They saw my 911, and quoted me $130, which it seems to me was based on what they thought I would pay, not what it would actually cost to make. I then went to the largest a/c and radiator chain in my area, and they made me a new barrier hose for $53.00 ! Their pricing was based on length of hose and connectors used, not on how gullible I look. It seems to me that we Porsche owners are so used to paying a premium for the precision parts that go into our cars that there are some retailers out there who will take advantage of this by elevating prices on items that are no different than their non Porsche counterparts. A disclaimer here- all of the hard parts retailers I have dealt with by mail order have been extremely professional, and have saved me lots of money over factory list. But if the part you're looking for is not necessarily Porsche specific, check around, you might be able to save some dough. |

I have had the exact same experience as described by Serge regarding A/C hoses. I replaced all of my hoses from the front to the back on one of my cars, for a fraction of the cost a distributer would have charged.
