is this a dumb idea - altering SSIs

To get my thick flange SSIs on to my new 79' motor, my mechanic will need to grind off the exhaust port guide that inserts into the engine.

I'm trying to avoid selling these and buying thin flange versions

Why not install long studs?

The top of the ssi tube is a sleeve that gets inserted should fit?

I use thic flange SC SSI w/the O2 bung.

Thanks Ronin,

My mechanic had thought that the sleeve would not fit. I feel better about just going with longer studs now that you tell me the SSIs don't need to be altered.

Mike

IIRC pre-1980 cars use thin flange. Later cars use the thick flange.
