Not bad... 1.5% of the value of your vehicle... I have not read the fine prints though....

Yeah I was looking at this for my M5. This company won't insure in NJ regarless of the fact that's where they are located. Know of any others?

I assume Driver's Ed would not apply to lapping days. I'll have to check. I'd love to have some coverage on the track.

Re: DE insurance - a source.

My Hagerty policy is <$500/year for a stated value of $30,000. My deductible is $1,000. The American Collectors DE policy would be $450/year with a track deductible of $6,000! Short of DESTROYING the car at a DE, how much damage are you really going to do? They only pay anything over $6000 in my case... ![]() My concern with the American Collectors DE Policy is that it ONLY covers DE Events. I want one that covers open track days and testing days too.

$6K is a high deductible, but a drop in the bucket if you have to replace your entire car after plowing into a concrete wall or having your engine go up in flames. At my first track day a few weeks ago a guy in the intermediate group totalled his GT3, which still had the "Used Certified Preowned" plates on it.

The more I think about it... maybe it isn't THAT steep. However, I still want coverage for OPEN TRACK and TESTING days. I do a little of both.

Based on my discussions with them years ago, I'm pretty sure that the ACI policy covers pretty much any event at a track -- outside of racing or formally timed events, like a time trial. And it's pretty much a supplemental policy for a total or catastrophic loss -- the deductible is too high for things like a wrinkled fender or a bent wheel.
If it's a concern, I'd check with them about open testing days. I think it it was $300/year for 20K of coverage, when I had it, which seemed fair. I've heard from other guys who had good experiences when they needed to make a claim. Of course, when I totalled my car, it was during a time trial -- and I was pushing for FTD. ![]()

Take it from someone who learned the very hard way - track insurance is a good deal and a $6k deductible is not bad at all. I had a $6750 deductible on my 993 and paid around $900 for 10 DE days of insurance. That's more than Amer. Collectors and it was a smoking deal, since I put my 993 into a wall on my very first track day of the policy. That $26k repair made the $6750 seem like a walk in the park vs. parting out my 993. Now it's concourse. Best money I ever spent.

Everyone hates insurance companies and lawyers until you need one. Then it's the best money you ever spent. I don't even bat an eye at insurance anymore. It's always money well spent in my case.

I was in green when I wrecked. The rule for DE insurance is: If you can't afford to push your car off a cliff, don't track it without DE insurance. I've seen some pretty bad stuff in all color run groups. I've seen an instructor total his Boxter on a warm-up lap and I've seen a cup car lose a ball joint at triple digit speeds. ***** happens on the track. Only injury I ever saw was someone who stuck his finger into his fan while the engine was running. But there is sometimes real car carnage at track events.

Rick, are you happy with laurel? They have some disclaimer about not being in the US/Canada and might not have to pay claims. It wasn't clear to me what they meant.
Emission, you might want to check your policy about DEs. I think Hagerty only insures collectable cars for mild street use.

Am I happy with Laurel? How could I not be happy with a company that cheerfully pays out more than 15x my premium after I wreck on the first day of the policy AND THEN even transferred my nine remaining track days to the SC when I bought it a month later? Yes, they are as good as it gets. Dave Empringham there is a racer and gearhead and totally shares our passion.

You say your premium is for 10 days. Do they expire in one year or do they carry over until you use them up? Thanks for the info, Rick!

I think the days expire one year from your first covered DE day and don't carry over to the following year if you don't use them up. Not sure on this. I know for this year it was something like $95 more to buy 20 days instead of just 10, so I figured it was a good deal.

But when you said "...and paid around $900 for 10 DE days of insurance," I'm not clear on what you mean. You paid $900 for 10 DE days, or did the insurance company provide you $900 for 10 DE days? If it's the former, I've never heard of drivers paying the insurance company for DE days.

Yes, you pay Laurel for a package of DE days. Since they only cover you when you're on the track, you have to fax them a form before each DE to tell them how many days you're using and which PCA region is holding the DE. They deduct those days from the number of days you bought. Since I just do the local two-day events and paid for 20 track days, I can do 10 DE's.
