Missing Mystery Relay

Hi all,

I've been rooting around in my trunk getting ready to install new H4 headlights in my 87 Carrera. I found a relay base installed on the front bulkhead, close to the front condenser fan (which worked last summer). Its got wires to it, but no actual relay. The wires come from the loom, and look factory.

The relay base had the following numbers on it:

3 334 485 008

The wires installed are

Heavy gauge wires:
Yellow w/ black stripe
Red w/ white stripe

Lighter gauge wires:
brown
light gray (jumped to a second terminal, also)

Anybody ever seen this before?

Thanks
Nathan

Ya, I have a relay up there as well, I figured out what it was for but now I forget. Condensor fan relay maybe?

According to Bentley, the condenser fan relay is #6 on the front fuse/relay panel on my 87.

I think you nailed it, OSI930. My car does not have headlight washers, which may explain why no relay is installed, but the wire colors leading to the block match the wiring diagram for the "headlight washer control unit" as shown in my Bentley manual.

Thanks all.

Nathan

I had the same empty relay port. Got a used relay for the front condenor fan(asked the junkyard to pull the relay by location)

I have put it in but my condensor fan still doesn't work. If I put power to the light grey wire the relay works and hense the fan does. My ac works(compressor kicks on and I get cold air) but the car will not turn on the relay. I am worried that the pressure will get too high in the condensor.

Hi Nathan,

Did Porsche delete the (useless) headlight washers for the '87 model year?

It was a standard feature on the '86.

Cheers,

Gerry
