1995 993-anything I should know?

Do a search-I know, I know. There's so much info and I'm in a rush. I need to get a nutshell answer as to what to beware of on a 95 993 C2 with 60k miles. It appears to be in nice shape. Blk over grey with the 6 speed for $28k. I've never driven one! But I have driven a 964 and loved it. It's in upstate Vermont-anyone?? I'm looking for the newer feel. Thanks!

if I had spare cash, that is exactly what I would buy. 95 doesn't have the OBDII issues.

Usual caveats. Have a PPI. I'm not an expert, but as I recall if it has the stock suspension it is way tired by now and will need to be replaced. They eat rear tires for lunch, and '95 was the worst of the 993 due to the suspension setup (again, as I recall).

At 28k if all checks out it's a steal.

I haven't seen many below $30k. Nice color combo as well.

It's a great daily driver even though a tad on the heavy side....

The first thing that comes to mind when Vt. is mentioned is SALT , if the car was driven winters corrosion is a concern. The brakes will be the first to need major attention in this regard.

No variocam on the '95's- you need a '96 or up for that.

If I was buying a 993 it would be a '95.

Being a first year car I have to wonder why? Simplicity of the motor?

Rick Lee had a great post a while ago listing difference between years, problem areas he found duing the search, etc. Most comprehensive post I remember seeing about the subject.

To all prospective 993 buyers (long)

It is actually the Varioram that was introduced in 1996.

The variocam is a system that Porsche introduced with the 996.
Operating under direct control of the Motronic engine management system, VarioCam uses a rotary-vane actuator on each bank of cylinders to continually adjust the phase angle of the intake cam.

To improve throttle response after starting in cold weather, VarioCam retards valve timing. At medium revs, and when the engine is under minimal load, the system advances valve timing to minimize fuel comsuption and exhaust emissions. For maximum thrust at higher revs, VarioCam advances valve timing.

Another important feature of the VarioCam is hydraulic valve adjustment. In addition to reducing engine noise, this technical feature helps minimize emissions during warm-up. Plus, there's no need for regular valve adjustment

The Varioram instead is a variable lenght intake manifold system.

96 and up have OBDII engine diagnostics. Do a search on that and "check engine light." And break out your checkbook

Great reading-Thanks!

And thanks for all of the rapid assistance from everyone. Keep em coming, but it looks as if it was the OBDII issues I was worried about which does not factor on this car.

I'm about ready to jump in feet first!

very nice car, already has the RS splitters

The only thing I really didn't like on mine was the stock gearing

I would buy that in a heartbeat if it checks out clean and has no rust...

I couldn't agree more. The RS splitters look great and the stock gearing does suck!

Should'nt the door jam/lock post, on the drivers side have a VIN# sticker if it has never been repainted?

Otherwise, its very nice.
