Need For Speed: Porsche Unleashed

Anyone play this game before? A few years ago I had it on PC and it was actually a lot of fun and teaches a lot about the history of Porsches from the 50s all the way upto the 996 and boxster. Great game..

I was still playing it up until a computer crash a year or so ago. Someday I'll reinstall it. Lot's of fun!

I remember driving the 550 spyder and some of the race cars from the 70's. I just liked how in the game you start out in the 50s driving a 356 and move your way through time. The trick was to buy damaged cars, fix them, and then sell to make big profits. That and as many of them aged, they grew in value. You could buy say a damaged 550 or Carrera RS, fix it, wait 10 years and sell it for a huge profit.

Great game played it all the time until I got a new computer, I wish they would put another one out with the new cars.

Any of you guys ever go through the factory driver section/specs, tough section especially the 360s/180s. I almost beat the game on my laptop and then the motherboard failed (Dell).

That factory driver thing was tough but worth it. Gonna have to reinstall it this winter.

Spent alot of time with that game, but after driving GT Legends for a year it's hard to go back as it seems alittle arcade-ish. I really miss the track scenery. I always hoped there would be a Porsche Unleashed 2.

I have it on my current computer. It's a lot of fun but I have had problems with the graphics on Windows XP. I still play it though.

I always wanted the 550 spyder but don't have it on my game and I have not been able to find upgrades online.

I just got a copy of this a month or two ago from another pelican...The game is awesome and i am an addict...It doesn't mesh well with XP, we actually play it without installing it, if you have all the necessary files in a directory, and click on the porsche.exe file, it loads up and plays perfectly.

I think doing all the custom mods in the evolution mode is the best part, the cars drive a lot better with upgraded equipment.

Yup, awesome game! I use to play it a lot online, with two other Pelicans and race each other. It was a blast! Especially with some of the cheat cars

I've trashed my XP partition and am solely running Linux now, but I plan to get Cedega and run Porsche Unleashed on my Linux system

Hi,

PU is my favorite driving game. Even though Electronic Arts closed their servers long ago there are still quite a few people that play it online every single day with the help of a matchmaking program written by one of the PU players. It's called the IP lounge. My name here on Pelican, DC_Targa, is my name in the game. DC is for Demolition Crew, which is the team I am on in PU. I have only seen a couple Pelicans play PU online... and they seemed frustrated. PU is neither an arcade style game nor a pure sim, but a mix of both. Car physics are fairly realistic since since the head of brand development (aka marketing) at Porsche AG was involved in the game creation. But, regardless of the wheel time in your Porsche, either on the street or a track, don't expect to keep up with the long time players until you can remember every inch of each track and know the feel of every car.

I play it on XP with few problems since I use a legal CD copy. Some of the no CD hacks don't work well I have heard.

Want to learn more? There are still a few team websites for the game. Try looking at the link in my sig to the DC site, then click the PU button.

Also, the creator of the IP Lounge is a member of RS (Rival Stock). http://www.rivalstock.com/index.php

Most people you will meet on the IP Lounge are very helpful. Just make sure you use a legal copy of the game with none of the performance hacks you might see on the web. Cheaters are not tolerated online.

Hope to see a few more Pelican's online in PU!

Cheers,

Dennis

I liked the game but it made my computer crash a bunch. Then spring came and I kinda forgot about it.

Waaay too many hours. I went through the entire game several times and got burned out so I stopped playing, just about time to break out the force feedback wheel and start all over again

I played this game from Jan of this year until May-ish.

Great game. I loved the realistic handling and driving conditions.

I beat the factory driver section and started working through the club racing side, but I lost interest when I got the early 80's section.

It was also tough to validate the time I was playing the game and working on my car to my wife. I choose to work on my car and stop playing the game.

I wish they'd come out with a new version to account for the past 5 years and better graphics and detailed engine pics would be a huge plus.
