Nice 81 930 Brian. In Silver too.

And the winner is ...
After slaving over a hot dyno for 90 minutes we have the results. Across Pelican and Rennlist we had 33 entries. The median rear wheel HP guess was 405, the median torque guess was 475 ft/lbs.
<drumroll please> And the results of todays trip: 342 rwhp and 370 ft/lbs torque (uncorrected). Air fuel ratios high 11s and low 12s. Peak HP around 5500 rpm, peak torque around 4500 rpm. Jeff Creech (my dyno guy - who prepared one of the winning cars for "Pinks" a couple of months ago) says there's more in it, but I'm running out of turbo and cam (yes, you were right, PorschePhD). This means that the winner is jtkkz with a guess of 350 rwhp - please remember you only have 200 years to claim your prize. Congratulations and thanks to all of the players. |
Awsome Mike... I was really looking forward to the results all day, I even checked in a few times.
370ft/lbs ..... That a lot of torque. How did the trans feel while on the dyno? Whats the car like on the street? I can only dream of having power like that right now You mention "cams" . Does the motor pull strong to red line or does it start fading off? You should post a video clip... Or how about a pic? I dont even know what the car looks like. |
what price? Is there a price? hahahha :)

Herman, the trans was fine (for now). It started dropping in power around 5500 rpm. Boost peaks around 4300 rpm and then tails off. To me the car is scary fast one of the guys at the dyno shop took a ride afterwards and said that it pulls harder than one of the 500 hp Corvettes they've built (I suspect part of that was the difference between a supercharger torque curve and a turbo's).
Very predictable but if you leave your foot down it screams to redline (you can spin the wheels in 2nd gear just by flooring it around 4000 rpm). Here are a couple of pics of the car. It's been a long rebuild, but is starting to be a lot of fun. http://pickettweb.com/Porsche/mp911SCsmall.jpg http://pickettweb.com/Porsche/final%20rebuild%20020.jpg |
342 and 370? You should easily get over 400 RWHP and torque with that set up.

My guess was closer the median, too. Besides the choice of turbos, I suspect there might be something not totally right with the spark, but haven't picked up any big indicators. I'm not on a mad rush to upgrade anything at this point. Since this is just a touring/beat around car that I'm not going to race, it is more than adequate for what I want. I am curious about the difference in output from the guesses on the forum. Makes me wonder if there may be something awry with the electrics.

To be honest - I have never really trusted dyno as there are way too many variables. But I too am a little surprised that it doesn't make a little more power/torque - likely limited by your turbo particularly when you say power starts to drop at 5500 rpm.
With the head porting and ability to provide sufficient fuel, I would have thought you should be able to build power all the way to 6500 rpm. |

Nice ride!
Guys how about commenting on tuning the Megasquirt II v 3.0 ECU controlling fuel and spark with the 964 cams and B&Bs to exceed 106 hp/l. Regards, |
