Talking New member Hello - just got my first 911 (1980 SC)

Hi everyone,

I've been lurking for a bit, but want to now say a formal hello as I have just become the proud owner of my first Porsche, a 1980 911SC.

The car has been in my family for a while. My Dad was the second owner and drove the car for 21 years, and now I have bought it. The car carries a lot of memories, and I am thrilled to be driving and caring for it as it is so much more than a car to me. It has 75K miles and is in pretty good shape, but needs a little attention. I'm already building my project list...

I would also like to say that I am impressed with this forum. Few communities on the internet are as informative and supportive as this. Bravo! I feel empowered to maintain my 911 with the advice and help of the members here!

Cheers,
Brian

EDIT:

Ok, here are some pics. they are old, but the car looks just about the same:

Yes, Hello. Great situation you have going there. My father used to have an early 911 but he sold it in the mid-eighties and has since passed away. He sold it before I had a chance to get it from him and now I have no way to find it (as far as I know).

Relish that car.

Welcome Brian !

You sound passionate about Porsche ownership as most of us are on this forum. You have found home ! Yes, pics are good !

Oh, and please don´t mod it - at least not until you get to know your 'new' car more thoroughly. Maintenance yes. Upgrades yes.

Brian,

Welcome to the Forum. You are right; this is one of the most helpful places in the entire (Porsche) world. Pass the word.

We need a picture so everyone can properly “Ooh & Aah.”

You will find this Forum an ideal place to propose your mods and then evaluate the responses. That is far less expensive than trying something, only later to find “I wish I hadn’t done that.” There are few things on a 911 that haven’t been tried. Most are successful but some are recovery from a Previous Owner's (PO) misguided (didn’t have Pelican) changes.

Of course diagnosing real or imagined problems is the heart of the Forum. So is sharing. We all learn from each other’s triumphs and mistakes. I learn every day.

Feel free to post even the “dumbest” questions. We have all been there and done that. Oil level is your first challenge. HeHe.

Again, you are WELCOME here.

Scott, go find that car! I’m sure you can find the VIN. The car should be findable even if destroyed.

Best,
Grady

Hey Brian, welcome. When you get the time check in with the local P-car forum www.dorkiphus.com for local Track/Fun Run/ and Porsche events.

Welcome and the best help we all can give is that if you have a question or problem, try the search feature.

There is more information here than anyone can imagine and almost any problem that you can have with a 911 has been discussed before.

You cannot imagine how life has changed with this bulletin board for those of us who have a 911.

Hey Kaefer - Can you post some more pics of your car please? And details on the bumpers too? Do you have any kind of chin spoiler? Thanks

Wow! Thanks everyone for the great welcoming responses!

My first post now contains some pictures for "oohing and aahing". They are old, but the car basically looks the same as it was well cared for.

I am really lucky with the service history. My dad bought it from a friend who was the original owner in Texas. I know he treated the car well from the start.

I'm not planning to mod it - just keep up on maintenance and do some light restoration where age is beginning to show.

I'll definitely be posting more soon as soon as I being planning my projects... I'm about to order Wayne's 101 projects book. Looks to be a great resource.

thanks again!
Brian
