tranny case sealer?

putting the front cover back on my 915, I have a new gasket, but I would guess I need some 50 dolla 1oz tube of super sealer as well, any recommendations? or what did you use?

thanks!

If I recall it's just a paper gasket correct. When I did a lot of work on 901 transmissions, we used Permatex Aviation Form-A-Gasket sealant. Here is a link.

http://www.permatex.com/products/Automotive/automotive_gasketing/gasket_sealants/auto_Permatex_Aviation_Form-A-Gasket_No_3_Sealant_a.htm

brush a light coating on both halves, put the gasket in and put it together,

There are about 100 effective solutions. Anything posted above will work. As will Loctite flange sealant for about $10.

I like the Loctite product. You can usually just peel the gasket off and re-use it when your tranny has to have a 'minor repair' the day after you install it. I have some experience with this issue.

Locktite 571 (I think that is the number... what ever we use to seal engine cases) The 571 seeps into the paper seal and I have not had any leaks since... except out of the service plate after I replaced it. Any of the above would be good. Just remember to spread it very thinly on the seal with your finger and thumb as you do not want to add too much dimensionally to the case. Not as important with the nose cone, but more so with the other sections.

P.S. This is a Chris Bennet trick I learnt when he helped me rebuild my tranny... for the 3rd time!

Curil T. Very thin coat on each side of the gasket. Use lacquer thinner or MEK to clean the sealing surfaces. Q-Tips are your friend.

If I wanted to go back in there at any point, I'd use Hylomar.

K&W spray coppercoat. let it tack up before squeezing. thicker sealers on thin paper gaskets like these cause the gasket to break and squeeze out with the sealer, so consider that.
