caliper reassembly problem
I had a problem with the right front brake dragging. I got the pistons out without too much problem. pistons look real good. and the caliper looked OK too just a little crud on the weather side of the seal.
When i tried to dry fit the pistons they fit in so far and stop. I didn't want to force them. Are the pistons supposed to fit tight on that post inside the caliper? and is that why my brakes are dragging? TIA Ken ![]()

you are using new seals, right? i found that if the piston is even skewed a tiny bit, they seem to lock up. forget dry fitting them. lube them up with brake fluid, (i use the dow silicon grease) and orient that 20 degree for the notch, and work that sucker in. i have had it happen both ways. sometimes a good squeeze with my hands, and sometimes i seek some "mechanical advantage".

Thanks for the quick response. not changing the seals just cleaning it up. I'll grease it up and press it back on. I'm sure the piston is not crooked. when the hole in the back of the piston contacts the post in the caliper it stops. i dont know why or if it is supposed to be a tight fit. But the piston came out it will go baack in.

man the caliper rebuild kit is something like $10. order one (actually order 4), and do it right. i dont think i would shortcut something that makes the car stop. those seals are very important, and i dont think the intention is for them to be re-usable. especially if you are blasting away with brake cleaner. if the thing is going in skewed it is so slight you wont notice.
good luck.
