Need help with tach connections

I purchased this tach for my 3.6 conversion and I have no idea what the pin out is for the connector on the back of the tach.

The pins are just labeled 1 thru 6 and HG+.

I do not know what year tach this is and I've checked the wiring diagrams to no avail.

Can anyone out there help me out with identifying these pins so I can wire my tach...Thanks!!!!http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1152539829.jpg

HI the date is in one of the stamps on the back of the tach, ither the blue or the brown/yellow stamp.

Mike, Thanks, I'll check for a date code. I gues it will help to know what year it's from. I really just need to know what the pins are.

Specifically, which pins are the tach signal (purple/black wire) and which are 12v and ground. I'm not sure what other connections would be required?

I recently posted a similar thread on how to wire my tach, http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/287331-how-do-i-wire-tach-temp-press-gauge.html

There seems to be quite a few different tach types.

I have brown (ground), black w/purple hash (signal) and red w/black hash (+). But like you I don't know which wire goes where

HI according to my 1990 wiring dia' the RPM guage is for a car with a on-board computer, the connections for the black/purple is on pin No6/TD, the live/ignition is No7/15, the earth brown is No2/31. please check/second opinion before wiring as this is for a UK car! and the rest of the connections are for the lights, indicators, main beam, which looking at the back of yours are separate??

That appears to be a 3.2 Carrera tach ... you can find wiring diagrams on p. 322 and 331 in the Haynes manual.

I find it curious that the factory reverted back to a topological or geographic layout for the schematics for the '84 - '89 cars. Guess the '74 - '83 'Current Flow' diagrams caused too much hair-pulling, eh?

Are the 3.2 wiring diagrams available online anywhere??

Seems only the earlier cars are available here @PP.

Thx

chief,

Your pic is washed out, and not in clear focus ... a proper one would be more useful to all.

The eight important connectors are in the rectangular plastic connector ... 1 - 6, TD, G. The labels should be visible down in the recess of the ivory/white plastic connector ... adjacent to the 0.25" Faston tabs. Impossible to see in your pic, perhaps one taken in macro mode with your camera under better lighting would show them clearly. These labels refer to the tach in location A-54 of the factory schematic on page 332 of the Haynes manual.

Terminal #5 is Red/Black wire -- +12 Volts. Terminal #6 is a Brown ground wire for the power supply feed. Terminal #TD is the tach signal on a Black/Violet wire, and G is the Brown ground return wire for the TD signal. Those four connections are all that are needed for a functional tach.
