Atlanta - Rylands Service
Does anyone in/around Atlanta use Rylands' for service, or would use them? I have a $100 off coupon. Please, let's not make this a debate on who is better than who.
Thanks Charles 88 Cab |

I can't say enough about Ryland so I'll just leave it at, "I highly recommend Ryland and his crew." He's definitely one of the good guys! He's been in business in the same location for over 20 years. That says a lot all by itself.

I was at the PCA concour Sunday and they raffled it off. (Wish I had won the Bridgestone tire raffle.) It is good for $100 off any MAJOR service thru 2006.

Good guy. A little slow at times but extremely knowledgeable. He is an ex Brumos racing mechanic. I think he said he built engines for them.

Ryland is one of the top listed mechanics in the area. He knows the older models and is a BOSCH certified shop. I do not know who is in the stable of technicians, but Ryland will oversee the work and ensure its right. He stands behind all his work and is a pleasure to deal with. I do not know about Peter in Norcross. I noted he has a new sign up in the front. I never knew Peter to do anything mechanical and I have no idea who is on board since Bob Sanderson headed up to Buford at Kinetic. Does anyone know if David is still with Peter on the parts end?

Although I have not had any mechanical work done there, I did engage Ryland to do the PPI on the '89 3.2 that I bought last fall. He did an extremely thorough job on the PPI, and in addition spent a significant amount of time discussing 911s and what to look out for when considering various models. I was very impressed with the personal attention that I received from him, especially since he knew that I lived two states away and would be having mechanical work done close to home. FWIW - I did ask a local Porsche mechanic here in NC and a Porsche owner in Atlanta for recommendations on who I should contact to do a PPI in Atlanta...they both gave me the same answer!
Regards, David. |

I want to thank everyone for all of the positive remarks on this forum about our shop. However I would like to make sure that there is no missinformation.
I started with Peter Gregg Porsche/Audi,(later Brumos Atlanta] as a porter in 1979 after my tools were stolen from a shop in Roswell Ga. I became a technician journeyman in 1980 and first received factory training from Audi, and later, around 1983 from Porsche.I specialized in 944/951 service.I received training on the 928,and 1987 911, and later electrical, and fuel injection systems. I crewed for Brumos some for Bob Akin, and Bobby Akin Jr.,and Debra Gregg with Cathy Rudd. I was not Brumos Racing's engine builder.Engine building for Peter Gregg was overseen out of the race shop in Jacksonville, or from the factory. Some engine building for the Playboy Cup cars was done out of Brumos Atlanta by Richard Hooper. I received my engine building training from Richard who later joined my shop after opening in 1989.Richard,a great engine builder later retired to Wyoming in 1994. Atlanta is lucky to have great wrenches dedicated to Porsche automobiles and their rich history. In my opinion;Howard,Jack,Bob,Reggie,Peter have all done their best to keep the quality and honesty that we associate with Porsche.Jim Ellis, and Hennessy are also fine shops as well. My reccomendation is to find a person that you trust. I would also like to add that this shop couldn't be what it is without my wife and partner. She runs a tight parts department with over17 years Porsche parts experience and can answer pretty much any auto related question. Thanks Debbie!! I agree with Ryland that you should find someone you trust, but it is even better to find someone that you AND everyone else seems to trust, and I have yet to hear anyone say anything bad about Ryland. The only "negative" I've heard is that his shop is not "asthetically pleasing" (it isn't) but who cares? If you want a fancy waiting room and lattes go get ripped at the dealer! I have used Peter, but he is in Norcross and I am in Kennesaw, and I will not hesitate to use Ryland in the future.
