enginge identification??

Newbie here.
I inherited my old daddy's '76 911S. He's had it since it was new.
I remember it leaking like the Exon Valdez on his garage floor years ago. Now it doesn't leak! So something happened.
He could have had the head stud problem fixed or THIS...
When I look at the enging on top of the fan shroud the sticker says 911SC. He might have had the thing upgraded to a 3.0L.
Is that possible?
So my question is how can I verify that the engine is the origional or what?
Any help would thrill me to pieces.

look for the engine #. it is on the side of the fan at about 5 o'clock , it is stampedd on a small post. and then get the number here, and somebody should be able to tell you if it was the original engine or not

Thanks I figured it out last night but then posted in the wrong (rebuilding) forum.
The other thing that makes me suspicious about this motor is that it has and extra pulley on the fan shaft,,,,like for AC but it's not an AC car.

Hey I know that story very well. Just mine doesn't have a 3.0L engine and is rustier than the titanic at the bottom of the Atlantic. SOunds like you have a nice little package there. When are you going to post some pictures?
