Angry Is it the WUR? Please Help

HI Guys,

I am ready to purchase a new WUR, but need to make sure this is the part I need, PLEASE HELP! Here are the symptoms:

1. Car starts right up immediately- 100 degrees here today

2. Comes right back to about 1000rpm,

3. Then gets really sluggish at idle, batt and Ox sensors light up

4. If throttle is applied, very rough acceleration, pop valve pops

5. If I can get it over 3000rpm, everything clears up

6. If I let it idle, it will eventually cut off

Please help- The $$$ cost for a new WUR is scary if I don't need it! I did take the WUR apart and cleaned up some rough areas, including the screen. Everything looked good. Also didn't notice any kind of leaks anywhere.
Thanks

without your system pressures, we would only be guessing just like you. but if you want me to guess..i think your mixture is off.

You can check the ohms reading with a voltmeter across the bi metal strip heating coil. Just unplug the connector and check the ohms reading. It should be (at a guess) a couple of ohms, say 4 to 10 ohms. Other than that you need to check the pressures.

As Vash saids, it sounds like it may be your mixture is wrong, especially when the engine is cold. You may find you just need a mixture adjustment, or maybe your WUR is just out of spec, and just needs to have the plug knocked, rather than be replaced. That is very common w/ these cars. Getting a good read on your control pressurse tells you where to go next. If you feel adventurous, or have experience w/ this, you can try a mixture adjustment. If not, getting a baseline reading for fuel pressures and mixture is best.

I hear you on the cost of the WUR. The part for my car increased from $200 to $800 in the last fours years!!!??? I have a hard time understanding why you can get a good condition 911SC for $9,000 and the WRU is $800.

Gestalt dyslexia. When it comes to costs, the whole is less than the sum of its parts!

poor running

If your car ever backfired, it knocked the sensor plate out of adjustment, which changes the mixture(CO). Set the sensor plate and then set the CO pre-cat.
