MFi Gurus

I have an issue with my car - I'm guessing it's the MFi but I don't know for sure. After a run on the interstate I came off onto a minor road, the lights were red so I pulled the car up - rather than dropping to idle the engine just faltered and died. Started straight back up upon the turn of the key. This happened a couple of times today, both times after a period of the engine running at a higher constant speed. What would cause this?

I have a new muffler on the car - could this have anything to do with it?

Nigal,

What year MFI?

The symptoms you describe are characteristic of a partially blocked filter screen at the fuel tank. This is usually from rust and debris in the fuel tank. There is a lot in Pelican archives about this.

Any other symptoms?

Best,
Grady

Grady, the Mfi is the original unit from the 72. The PO had the MFi rebuilt, without wanting to tempt fate it has always worked 100% perfectly. Kind of happy the issue may not be the MFi unit.

Will search the threads on the tank filter screen issue. I'm assuming it is only affected after a high speed run because the car is 'sucking' greater amount of fuel (debris) through/against the filter?

How big a job is the tank filter screen?

Many thanks for your help.
