Moving to Dallas--need A/C repair rec's

Hi everyone,

Porsche content:

My A/C is no longer operating at its full potential, so I will need to have a good repair shop in the DFW area take a look once I get there. Also, have you ever had your A/C smell like sewage?

Non-Porsche content:

My family (wife, 2-year old daughter, and a 1987 911 Coupe!) and I currently live in New Jersey and I have recently been given the opportunity to relocate to the Dallas area (Lewisville, specifically). My wife and I have done a lot of Internet research on the area and really like the town of Southlake for its commuting distance, good schools, and lovely homes. The Internet can only give you so much, however. To really get to know a place, you need to go there and talk to people who live there.

We’ll be flying into Dallas on Friday morning (7/21) for a cursory weekend “evaluation” of this opportunity. We aim to meet with a realtor on Saturday morning to get a property analysis and a view of the local amenities/activities and get a feel for the community (albeit with a real estate marketing slant!).

I was wondering if someone from the area would be available at some point on Friday or Saturday afternoon or evening (or even over the phone next week) to get together to give us a “crash course” in the good, the bad, and the ugly of living in the Dallas area. If you can provide a similar viewpoint to ours (mid-30’s couple with 1 small child), that would be fabulous! PM me and I can give you my cell phone number and we can talk.

This is a very difficult (yet exciting) decision for us, in that we have no family or friends in the area, but we have been looking for a change for quite some time. I haven't made a decision yet, but I'm obviously very serious about it. Any help offered would be greatly appreciated! I look forward to meeting some Pelicans!

I've gotten a few replies in the off-topic forum, but I figured I'd get some more exposure here. Thanks in advance,

Guhan

I think you're going to love Dallas except for the fact that's it's going to be 104 today. I've left 3 times for various jobs, etc. and always enjoy being back. I'm in the Real Estate biz on the mortgage side but I have friends out in Southlake and Trophy Club. It's really nice but it's a ways from what I call "Dallas". Depending on where in NJ you are coming from you'll get quite a bit more for your money although parts of the DFW area can get VERY pricey very fast but we have missed out on the insane appreciation that much of the country has seen.
Send me a PM and I can get in touch with you to answer any questions about the area you might have.
BTW, for the Porsche content, the closest places I can think of that I recommend would be Dallas Eurocar 972-243-4911 (ask for Jim) or Louden Motors 972-241-6326, Jim used to work for Steve Louden. Zims has a great reputation but the other two are straight down I 35 which should be a little closer. I have not got a clue as to Porsche shops in Southlake or the DFW area.
Welcome, and BTW, it's not much like the TV show...thank goodness. Pretty much the only cowboy hat's you'll see will be on marketing material trying to lure tourists. Lot's of Porsches too.
Welcome

Zims and Mayo are two good shops there. Lots of others, get together with Buck and some of the other Pelicans there and they will clue you in on everything.

I hear it gets hot in Dallis.

Guhan,
We pronounce it "Dallis", that's your first lesson. It's a great, dynamic city and area. Southlake is a nice, new, clean, safe place and it has trees. Welcome!

Mark any news on your foray over to the dark, I mean water cooled side? I'm going to be really jealous when you are cruising around in a chilly car when I'm sweating my a$$ off. I just got of the phone with Jim at Dallas Eurocar and he's tempting me with a/c upgrades.
I just need to close a couple of loans and it'll be AC city baby!

Yo Buck,
It will prolly be a couple months before I sell - not in any hurry. I'm actually going to Austin in a couple weeks to replace the evap on Ginger to get her back in the cool. The evap is the one weak point on the 993 AC and mine got a hole this year - go figure.....

Dallas AC

I would recommend Mayo's and ask for Tom. They did my ac system. I have a 1987 coupe and the system works great. It can even handle 100 degree days.

I also added a additional oil cooler in the left front fender along with finned oil lines. Yesterday hit 103 degrees and my oil temp never went past 210 degrees in traffic
