Can't comment until you tell us how much he is asking.......What kind of service did they do that cost $4600.? It appears to be a super example of an SC.

It is on Thesamba.com for $22,900. I think it is a good 18k to 20K car.

Depending what was done to the engine and where the car is located $18-20k sounds reasonable. ARe the wheels 7 and 8 or 6 and 7s? 7&8s would be worth more of course. Of course have a PPI done to be sure everything is really as it seems.

Looks like 7s and 8s to me.
Nice looking car. The hood gap looks funny though, I would want to see more pics...... -Chris

Well, let me comment a bit more on the "background" seen in the picture. This is not the first owner / babied the car surroundings you will want to see when dropping seroius cash on a pristine car. It is more likely that the car has been picked up for less money and is being flipped. That's okay, if the car is what it is advertised to be, but I certainly would be more leery here than if I'd buy it from the original owner. There are certain things that are more likely to take place in the environment you see here. Odometers are tampered with easily, for example, also people that flip cars, may drive the living dailght ot of the vehicle, as they know that they do not have to worry about the long term effects ...
Just my two cents. I am really not the show car buyer, but if I were, I'd be seriously turned off by the surroundings. Cheers, George |

Looks great. But my thinking on these cars is stay below $15K--the book value for one in good condition. Lots of low mileage cars around for $20K. If you drive them everyday and build up mileage, they will drop in value fast. If you drive them only on Sunday, they probably won't increase in value if you've paid top dollar.
If money is an issue at all, you shop around for the best value. Plenty to choose from. Looks like a buyers market.

They're holding their prices at these new lower levels seen this year. Those look like 7's and 8's to me too. 16 to 18 is my value

About 6 months ago I was shopping for a Carrera and they were moving so fast I could not get out to take a look at them much less a PPI etc... I noticed the SC were moving a little slower and I liked the price better and the selection was larger. I would not pay top dollar for a SC. I mean why? There are a lot of good SC to choose from so buy one at half that cost of that one and still have a great driver then spend what money you want bringing it up to or close to this 81SC. If it were me I would not want to pay the $4600 in engine service the PO did. If I were going to go that far on engine service then I would have either had it rebuilt fully or done it myself. And here is a BIG ISSUE....what the hell kind of $4600 service is needed on a car with 54k and spotless service records. My 83SC has 139k, w/o spotless service recs, has never been pulled from the car and it runs great with no vac. or oil leaks. I would be wary of this car..........

If there's a stack of service records available, take a look there to confirm the mileage. If the car sat for a while, I can see that it may need some serious engine work - mind you, maybe some of that money went into updated parts, too.
As a side note: Antera 3-spoke wheels - gotta wonder about a person that puts these horribly ugly wheels on any car, esp. a miata! At least they aren't on the 911! rob '79 930 |

I'd want to know that the suspension rubber was new. The A-arm bushings, tie rods, ball joints, etc. on the front, and on the rear the trailing arm bushings (some say no big...), the donuts on the tbar cover, etc. Even if the car sits, the bushings take an oval set. That's when your A-arm starts rubbing on the tbar...
But if I had over 20K for a car I would not put the money into a pristine SC but instead buy a nice Carerra from an enthusiast, warts and all. John

I agree and kinda hate to say it since I own a SC but SCs are worth more to their owners than they are anyone else. If you put a lot of money into a SC you are likely doing it for yourself b/c you are not going to get back what you put into it. I do also feel that with this being said you can get the most bang of your buck with a SC this dude just wants too much buck for his bang in this 81 and like others have pointed out he is probably a car flipper.

![]() A big repair bill is not a reason to price the car higher. A mint car is supposed to be all there. How much it cost to get it there is not the buyer's problem. And yes, if you pay someone to work on a 911, it will get pricey and you will never recover the money. George |

Looks like tinted windows and the wheels have (non stock) polished lips.
