caliper adapters - what material to use ?
I would like to fabricate a set of rear brake caliper adapters (993tt into 76' 911S)
does anyone know what type of material should I tell the guy doing the machining to use. I would like to use aluminium in order to make them lighter, but which Aluminium?? Thanks a lot

6061 is good but 7075 is already heat treated.

6061 T6 is heat treated. The T6 specifies the heat treatment given(heat treat solution and artificially aged). 7075 T6 will have a higher strength. The shuttle has lots of machined 7075 parts on it.
7075 has better machinability than 6061 and is stronger, but not very weldable. 6061 is more weldable and maybe slightly less machinable than 7075. I didn't stay at a Holiday Inn last night, but I have read a couple of books by Carroll Smith and Rod Finch. I'm just a guy with an interest in learning to weld and fabricate my own toy pieces. Anybody got a Miller Dynasty 200DX laying around that needs a good home? ![]()

6061-T6 will work very well. It is easier to find for what you are doing. It is pretty much the "stock" aluminum in bar which is what you will start with. Your machinest should have no trouble finding this.
