Tire choices?
I'm getting ready to replace the tires on my newly aquired 81 SC. I have used on my other cars the Dunlop SP8000s and the Yokahama AVS Intermediates with great success. Previous cars were front drivers and my wifes' Alfa Spider. The SC has the 16" Fuchs (16x7 fr, 16x8 r). Does any one have any good recomendations? I live in Oregon(rains 9 months out of the year) and the car is a daily driver.
I will be running the Yokohama A032R's for track days but didn't want to go that soft for daily tires. On another note, has anyone changed the drivers side seat belt assembly? My belt has seen better days and doesn't retract like it should. This could be a safety hazard. I am considering upgrading to a harness bar and harness but still have the factory high back seats. Is this OK? Wife wants to do performance mods to the Alfa before I can get new seats. ------------------ |

Hi Dave,
As yourself I too drive around in the wetlands (The Netherlands :-) I'm very satisfied with my Pirelly P 6000 set. They last long (even with a heavy foot) and are great on wet surfaces. I believe you can find an old thread on the BBS on your seatbelts question. Mrtn ('87 911 carrera) ------------------ [This message has been edited by maarten (edited 12-29-1999).] |

I also always get all my tires from the Tire Rack. Always have had great prices, great service, etc. in the many, many years I have been dealing with them.

I just replaced my Perellis with Kelly Springfield GT 55 Wet/dry tires. They have rain grooves down the center of the tread. Haven't had a chance to try them out on the S-curves here in GA, but I suspect they will be a little less forgiving then the Perellis.
The supplier I purchased them from said to give them a try, and if I didn't like them he would replace them with the Perellis |

I have been shoping for tires to replace my P7s on my SC it seems they are like iron and wear very little.
NTB which is owned by Sears will match Tire Rack .com prices and you have the convenience of mounting balancing etc done by one supplier. I am leaning towards the R-1s which were orig equip on late 80s 911s,959 Ferraris etcwhich are around 100.00 each installed |
