Damage from leaving ignition on?
Left the ignition on in my Carrera for two days. Battery is flat and I am recharging it now. Is there possible damage to anything else beyond the battery? I seem to recall reading a long time ago that the coil can be damaged. Is this true? If so, how can I test the coil, aside from just seeing if it produces enough voltage to start the engine?

just as a data point. Some pelicanheads reported toasted Pertronix with key left in on. search w/ Early_Man

Shouldn't affect your car. Electronic ignitions shouldn't do anything more than drain the battery.

John,
If your coil got hot enough to damage it ... it will most likely be 'oozing' now ... check for oil or goo leakage.

Thanks for all the reassuring responses. The coil seems fine and I drove the car to work today. My only concern now is whether the Optima battery might have been damaged from being deeply discharged, but since it held a charge over-night I guess its fine. A few years ago a Pelican posted here that his Optima was unable to hold a charge after being allowed to fully discharge.
