open opinion on brake rotor.

I just found out that I will need FRONT pads and rotor soon. Then I spent some mins to search on price/type of rotors. Do you think stock is enough, or other after market is better. Is there an after market for similar price as stock but better quality?

Stock = $150 F set
Has any one experienced Kinetic Drilled rotor: Ebay item# 160007075022

Strange:
This item show diff. item. On my car, the front rotor has vent. THis item show no vent. Are my current rotors stock?

In the end it is physics. If you do not have larger pads and larger rotors to absorb more heat, it's not going to buy you much. I would stay with stock and save your money for a brake upgrade or at least some cooling modifications - if you track it.

Hope this helps, George

If you have a factory M491 turbo look, then your front rotors are 1 piece, vented and x-drilled, 304x32mm

Replace them w/ factory parts.

If you have a normal '87 Carrera you have 1 piece, vented but not x-drilled 290x24mm rotors.

In the back there is a setup simlilar to that on the front.
M491 wil have vented and x-drilled. 309x28mm

nomal will have 299x24mm vented but not drilled

Thanks for info. Originally, I was asking about pricing if there is any after market crossed or drilled rotor that cost similar to normal/stock rotor? Seem like not.
Thanks guys.

You don't want a drilled rotor. The holes crack. The Porsche factory "drilled" rotors actually have cast holes in them. Listen to Bill. He is the brake guy.

You can get a small improvement by slotting rotors as opposed to drilling them but unless you are pushing your car extremely hard you will never see the difference and it is best avoided.

ok.. another "stay with stock" maintenant part.
Thanks guys.

Since the "brake guy" (bill) is here, can I add another related question, brake pads.
I used to play with brake pads on my previous cars. As you know, there are many opinion on pad from the internet but who know how many really works. And it's depend on each person purpose for the meaning of "works". For me, of course I want braking power but I don't want to sacrify for dust. I had an experience of brake dust kill 2 chrome wheels. So the first thing I look at brake pad is "dust", second is braking power. It doesn't mean if the pad has no dust and braking power is 4 on 10 is acceptable. On my BMW E36, the pad I finally stayed with for a long time was PBR Delux. Which pad would yuo recommend me for my 87 fake turbo look, none turbo brake calibers?
Thanks.

hey all work, just some are better at one thing or another.

I liked he PBR aka Axxis and Repco when I used them, I think that they are still very good choices for street use, I would like to try their newer ceramic based compound which may be even better but that is yet to be determined.

Hope this is not considered a high-lack....

What are the various options to replace ( in "like kind") a stock , worn out rotor for a 3.2 Carrera?... post also pros / cons / relative costs

ex....replacement rotors from the dealer.... vs Zimmerman vs "X"....etc....
