Rust Remedy, POR 15 ?
Hi,I'm doing some restoration work to my 78SC and have found some rust on the tops of the front wheel archs, after removing the wings.A lot of heavy pitting with 3/4 pin holes.I've give it a really good wire brush getting as close to "clean" metal as possible. My question is how good is POR 15?.I live in the UK and have tried many "rust remedys" all of which usually don't work to well, will POR 15 be any better? Thanks for all advice in advance.

I have a sample pack that I have tried and am going to use this stuff on my 69 vw fastback. You can order a sample pack for about $10 and they will discount that amount on your next purchase. The instructions tell you not to use a power wire brush because it gets the metal too shiny and the paint likes a little more roughness for adhesion. I personally like the POR15.
http://www.por15.com/ I'll be sandblasting the pan and underside of the body this summer and using this everywhere. Hope this helps. Dave |

POR-15 is the best inhibitor available. It costs $ 36 per quart deivered and is worth it's weight in gold. Be very careful and read the lid resealing procedures or you'll be out $ 36 after one application. I know there online at http://www.por15.com good luck with it.

I've found it to be a great product where you can't, or don't want to, go down to 'clean and bright'! The sample pac is a good idea, use "Saren Wrap" under the lid to reclose, as others have mentioned. The Marine Clean and Metal Ready are also good products of Por 15. I would never order a bigger than 1 pint can as it volitilizes quickly once opened. :-))
Good Luck and time for a pint! Ernie 67 911 |

Thanks for all the info guys, you are all convinced it's the best product.I've looked at their web site, and it seems good stuff. Do you need to use the ready metal as well,as i've only seen the POR 15 advertised in the UK,not the $10 starter kit.Thanks.
